Paulo Costa vs Marvin Vettori fight has been rescheduled to take place at 205 pounds

For this weekend's UFC big event, the game of musical weights continues. According to UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell, Paulo Costa vs. Marvin Vettori will now take place at 205 pounds, or the light heavyweight category, as of Thursday night.

The fight will take place in Las Vegas on Saturday night, with weigh-ins taking place on Friday morning.

The fight was originally scheduled for middleweight or 185 pounds. Earlier in the day on Thursday, it was agreed that the Costa-Vettori fight would be pushed up to a catchweight of 195 pounds, with Costa forfeiting 20% of his fight pay to Vettori.

However, Campbell stated on Thursday night that Costa would not be able to make 195 pounds, thus the UFC decided to hold the fight at 205 pounds. Despite the several adjustments this week, Vettori consented, and according to Campbell, he will still receive 20% of Costa's earnings.

Vettori stated in an Instagram video posted Thursday night that a 195-pound contract was signed, but Costa's management said he couldn't make it. Costa's actions were described by Vettori as "very rude."

Vettori said, "We're up to 205." "And here I am, about to battle all of the fans on Saturday night, and I'm not going to let this guy get away with it. I agreed to the fight. And we're going to f—- it. This mother—-er is going to get slugged. We're going to defeat him."

Costa stated he weighed 211 pounds that afternoon during media day on Wednesday.

Both Vettori and Costa have been defeated by UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Costa is ranked No. 3 in the world at middleweight, while Vettori is ranked No. 6 in the globe. However, after a tumultuous few days, their fight will now be fought at light heavyweight.

Costa last competed in the Octagon in September, when he challenged Israel Adesanya for the undisputed middleweight title at UFC 253. He was defeated by TKO in the second round, his first loss in an eight-year professional career.

Vettori also faced Adesanya in a rematch at UFC 263 in June, but lost by decision, ending his five-fight winning streak.

Vettori and Costa are still scheduled to headline the UFC Vegas 41 event at the APEX this weekend.
