Tom Brady, Leonard Fournette lead the Buccaneers picked a 28-22 win against the Eagles

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used a raging start to grab a commanding lead over the Philadelphia Eagles on the road, but then cooled off in the second quarter and never fully recovered. The defending Super Bowl champions, on the other hand, kept a step ahead of the Eagles, winning 28-22 at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night.

Tom Brady threw his league-leading 16th and 17th touchdown passes of the season. Two more touchdowns were scored by Leonard Fournette on the ground. The Eagles pulled off a late comeback, with quarterback Jalen Hurts rushing for two touchdowns to cut the Buccaneers' lead to six points. The Buccaneers, on the other hand, replied with a methodical drive that ate up the final 3:54 of the clock and put the game out of reach.

Tampa Bay moved to 5-1, tying for the best start to a season in franchise history. Philadelphia is now 2-4.

Brady started the game by throwing for 121 yards and two touchdowns on 11 of 12 first-quarter attempts (to tight end O.J. Howard and wide receiver Antonio Brown). With tight end Rob Gronkowski out again due to injury, Brady distributed the ball around to six different targets in the first quarter as Tampa Bay led 14-7. With 1:56 left in the first half, Fournette's first touchdown of the night increased the score to 21-7.

Fournette had one of his most complete games of the season, running for 81 yards on 22 rushes and adding 46 yards receiving on six catches.

This season, the fifth-year veteran, who signed with Tampa Bay after things went south in Jacksonville last season, appears to be much more at ease with the system.

He has 367 rushing yards and six touchdowns last season, as well as 233 receiving yards. Fournette has 251 running yards and 167 receiving yards through six games this season.

For much of the night, Philadelphia's offence struggled to get going, converting only three of ten third downs for first downs. Hurts' two rushing scores and a touchdown pass to tight end Zach Ertz were among the few highlights.
