UFC Fight Night 196 results: Grant Dawson vs. Ricky Glenn declared a majority draw

In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 196, Grant Dawson and Ricky Glenn swapped dominant grappling positions, but the judges couldn't decide who won.

For the first two rounds, Dawson (17-1 MMA, 5-0-1 UFC) dominated Glenn (22-6-2 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) with a barrage of takedowns and positional superiority. In Round 3, the tables were flipped, as Glenn dramatically changed the momentum with a 10-8 round, resulting in a majority draw with scores of 29-28, 28-28, and 28-28.

The lightweight bout was the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 196 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It was available to watch on ESPN+.

Dawson wasted no time in putting his strategy into action to begin the fight. Within the first minute, he had Glenn on the mat and began attacking him with his grappling assaults. Dawson got the back and waited for Glenn to make a mistake before unleashing a barrage of blows and attempting to sneak in a finishing choke. Glenn played solid defense, but he was held in check for more than four minutes of the second quarter.

To start the second round, Grant rejected Dawson's initial entry, but Dawson persisted in his pursuit of the takedown and was able to secure the position he desired. Dawson fought from guard and side control, chipping away at Glenn with quick punches and wearing him down to win another one-sided round.

Dawson did not deviate from his tactics in Round 3. As soon as he saw the opportunity, he went for the takedown, but he was tired, and a frantic Glenn managed to keep him away in the first few minutes of the round. Glenn climbed to the top and attempted to intimidate with submissions and ground-and-pound. He claims he felt Dawson was out after nearly finishing it with an anaconda choke late.

Glenn's performance on the mat was enough for the judges to award him a 10-8 in Round 3, resulting in a tie.
