Despite the turbulence surrounding the release of GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition, there have been some silver linings discovered. While the gameplay has aged as one would anticipate from a 20-year-old game, there have been some surprising discoveries in the games that were not expected and, in one case, not even promoted.

A VR feature was uncovered in the game files thanks to the research of several curious gamers, notably Rockstar Intel writer Ben Turpin. The mode in issue appears to be a partially functional VR mode that looks identical to GTA V's first-person view, but it appears as a VR option in the options menu. Here's all you need to know about Grand Theft Auto III: Definitive Edition.

This mode is accessed using a debug Unreal command, so you'll need to be into that kind of game code modification to access it, and there's little use in doing so because it's a buggy mess in its current version. The VR claim appears to be nonsense, as there is nobody control and it appears to be nothing more than a first-person mode for the GTA Trilogy, which was never meant to be released.

It's possible that it will be released in the future, but Rockstar has yet to confirm whether or not this is in the works.

In terms of what a VR mode would accomplish for the game, the benefits are enormous, as immersing yourself in these realms with a VR headset completely transforms the game. GTA V has a VR mode that makes the game feel brand new, similar to how Skyrim VR did in the past, so if Rockstar would implement this in the game in the near future, we could get a whole new perspective on some of the most iconic games of all time and, more importantly, get rid of a lot of the criticism that is currently ravaging the game.

We previously knew GTA: San Andreas VR was coming to Oculus Quest 2, so this news isn't all that surprising, especially since the game should be out any day now. Because the game is being built from the ground up with VR in mind and will be a strictly VR product when it launches, expect full motion controls.

GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition is one of the biggest holiday surprises, and despite its flaws, it's a nicer version of three of the most essential games in videogame history, so if you missed out the first time around, now is your chance to enjoy them this generation.
