UFC 268 results: Ode Osbourne def. CJ Vergara via unanimous decision
Round 1 — Bruce Buffer and Joe Rogan are both backs. The first of 14 fights are starting to draw a crowd. Let's get this party started. Keep in mind that CJ Vergara did not make weight for this one. Ode Osbourne has now faced someone who is heavier than they should be for the second time. Vergara connects with a jab. With a flying knee, Osbourne narrowly misses the target. Round 2 – The boxers trade punches, with Vergara landing a left hand. Several boos float down from the rafters. After all these months off, the New York crowd is still tough. Osbourne strikes with a quick punching combo. Vergara attempts a punch, which he misses, and is then tagged by Osbourne. Osbourne lands a right after eating a left. They make a trade in the pocket, and Vergara wins. For a fraction of a second, Osbourne appeared to be harmed, but they quickly recovered. Vergara lands a leg kick to the outside. Ozzy Osbourne throws a sluggish left hand. Vergara connects with a body shot. That's what he's aiming for now. Vergara keeps attempting a front kick a la Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, but he's missing all of his tries by a considerable margin. Vergara connects with a jab. Vergara nails the target with a strong head kick, but Osbourne catches it and puts him down. On Vergara's back, Osbourne completes the round. 19-19.
Round 3 – Vergara lands a hard jab in the third round. Here, he's fighting a sense of hurry. He eats a right jab and rips a body kick. Vergara lands a right hand and eats a large counter with his right hand. Vergara charges him and lands three or four knees to the body in an unplanned plum clinch. Vergara is pushed to the canvas by Osbourne. When Vergara rises, Osbourne attempts a double leg. Vergara escapes and misses a slew of punches with ease. Another takedown attempt is denied by Vergara. Although Vergara appears to be the younger fighter, Osbourne continues to land at a high rate. Although Vergara ties him up, Osbourne circles him and separates them. Osbourne connects with a left hand. They re-tie, and Osbourne sneaks in a blow in the clinch. Vergara is still pressing despite being fatigued with three minutes left on the clock. The two fighters lock horns and fall to the ground. It might be anyone's moment, but Vergara seizes it by climbing to the top. Vergara appears to be moving to half guard, but Osbourne's guard is very tightly closed. Vergara is throwing a lot of ground and pound, but it's not really working. Osbourne threatens to submit for a brief moment. Finally, Vergara hits some elbows. The audience oohs and aahs. Vergara advances to half guard as Osbourne tries to cage-walk. Vergara is victorious at the end of the round and the bout. The first and third rounds were incredibly tight. Osbourne wins 29-28.
