Season 1 of The Witcher was difficult to follow at times due to the show's three intertwined timelines. On the one hand, it was a creative method to deal with the original story's shifting mediums, allowing the show to contain short stories, novels, and video games all at once. However, important elements, such as the current enemy, slipped between the cracks. Season 2 corrects this by putting the White Flame in the foreground. But, in The Witcher, who is the White Flame, and why should Fringilla be concerned about him?

Spoilers for Season 2 of The Witcher are ahead. Fans may not have noticed, but Nilfgaard mentions a character known as "the White Flame" on a regular basis. This guy, who did not appear in the first season, resembles a figure from a Marvel movie or a mobster drama, the Big Boss who no one sees but whom everyone fears. However, despite the fact that he was never seen in Season 1, his ruthlessness in attacking Cintra and at the Battle of Sodden spoke eloquently.

In Season 2, the story is told in chronological order, so viewers aren't distracted by the "when" of it all. The White Flame and his aggressive rule now loom larger, with Nilfgaard on the defensive after Sodden. Fringilla made it clear to anyone who might have missed it that he is the country's leader. She explained, "He overthrew the Usurper; he spared my life."

When elves kidnapped Yennefer and Fringilla in Episode 3, fans finally met the White Flame. They realized they experienced the same dream, which elven mage Francesca had as well. Following the signs to a cabin, the three saw faces from their visions. Francesca came face to face with Ithlinne, the elven oracle. Yennefer, on the other hand, recognized Voleth Meir as a demon who will take your soul in exchange for your heart's desire. In the meantime, Fringilla encountered the White Flame, Emhyr var Emreis, Emperor of Nilfgaard.

Francesca was too desperate because the elves' situation was so tenuous, especially when it guaranteed her the one thing she most desired — a pregnancy. (It had been generations since a new elf had been born.) The demon was scorned by Yennefer because he was Yennefer. Despite seeing through the ruse, Fringilla trusted the demon's advice and sided with the elves and the now-pregnant Francesca.

Fringilla brought the persecuted Elves to Cintra, which was held by the Nilfgaardians, in the hopes of winning the North and impressing Emhyr var Emreis. But, as Cahir reminded her on a daily basis, the real White Flame had other ideas. If you listen to Emhyr's voice, the show already indicated what those plans were for people who were curious. It's from Season 1 when viewers first encountered the emperor when he was a hedgehog in love with Princess Pavetta, Queen Calanthe's daughter.

Emhyr lived in exile as Duny, Urcheon of Erlenwald in the books before becoming the White Flame and overthrowing the Usurper. The sorcerer Vilgefortz persuaded him to return to Nilfgaard when Ciri was born. Emhyr snuck away with Ciri and Pavetta to regain the kingdom without Calanthe's knowledge, believing he could take advantage of the prophecy and Ciri's elven blood. Emhyr shoved his wife overboard into the water and retook Nilfgaard alone, but Pavetta was faithful to her mother and kept Ciri from him.

With this information, the assassination of Cintra, as well as the direct targeting of Calanthe, makes sense. It's a retribution story, and the White Flame will go to any length to reclaim his daughter.

What are Ciri's abilities, and what is her destiny?

Season 2 of The Witcher focused on Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) and how she gains control of the powers she was given in Season 1. The Voleith Meir takes control of Ciri's body and transports her to a fantasy world where she is reunited with her deceased family and loved ones. The Voleith Meir then unleashes a slew of new monsters on Kaer Morhern in order to eliminate the Witchers.

Ciri is able to free herself from the Deathless Mother's clutches thanks to Geralt's (Henry Cavill) counsel and Yennefer's (Anya Chalotra) willingness to become a vessel for the beast, and she is sent back to the realm she came from.

Ciri accomplishes this by portraying herself, Geralt, and Yennefer to another Sphere, where they encounter the Wild Hunt, who invite Ciri to join them and refer to her as the "starry-eyed daughter of chaos."

Ciri's Elder Blood also had a role in the finale, as elven queen Francesca Findabair (Mecia Simson) discovered it and informed her people that Ciri's heritage implies she is prophesied to save the elves.

What is The Wild Hunt?

Ciri has a vision while seeking to discover more about her Elder Blood, and the Wild Hunt first appears in Season 2 when she has a vision.

The Wild Hunt is thought to be a bunch of specters that gallop across the sky as an omen of war by those on The Continent, but they are actually Aen Elle elves.

The horde, also known as the Wraiths of Mörhogg, is intent on invading other worlds via the Gate of the Worlds in order to enslave slaves. The Wild Hunt is drawn to Ciri in the novels and the program because of her abilities and ancient bloodline, which they seek to possess.

In Season 1, Geralt assisted Ciri's mother and father in breaking a curse that had turned him into a beast. He was known as Duny, Urcheon of Erlenwald at the time, but Season 2 revealed that he is the leader of Nilfgaard. This explains why the Empire is so desperate to discover Ciri and why they knew about her skills long before she did.

Emhyr, a ruthless monarch in the novels, waged war against the Northern Kingdoms and went on to become King of Cintra and Emperor of Nilfgaard.

The character's ruthless streak bursts through in the Season 2 conclusion, when he requests Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni) and Cahir (Eamon Farren) be taken away after believing they would no longer be able to help him with his objective for Nilfgaard.
