Season 2 of The Witcher is almost here: Geralt and Ciri will journey to Witcher keep Kaer Morhen in the second season of the Netflix drama about our favourite monster hunter, which will premiere on December 17, 2021. Other prominent Witcher characters, such as Vesemir, Eskel, and Lambert, are expected to appear in season 2, and we may also see a new side of Geralt.

The show is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher books (rather than the games, which is how many of us first became acquainted with Geralt and his companions), and the first season began with a haphazard series of vignettes. We anticipate a more linear storey in the second season.

The first season of The Witcher was released at the end of 2019. Season 2 was hindered by Covid-19 safeguards, but filming was finally completed in April 2021, and the show entered post-production. Here's all we know so far about The Witcher 2 and what to expect.

The Witcher season 2 RELEASE DATE?

Season 2 of The Witcher will premiere on Friday, December 17, 2021. Starting at 12 a.m. PST, the entire eight-episode season will be available on Netflix. That's 3 a.m. on the east coast of the United States, and 8 a.m. in the United Kingdom. Here's a handy chart for converting time zones.

Season 2 will be published two years after the first, which was released in December 2019. The release date was confirmed during WitcherCon in July (a digital event co-hosted by Netflix and CD Projekt).

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, production for The Witcher season 2 was delayed a few times. During the first few months of the pandemic, Netflix halted production on all of its series. The Witcher ensemble reunited on set on August 17, 2020, although filming was delayed in November 2020 due to the positive test results of four crew members. It was resumed, but Henry Cavill suffered a minor injury onset in December 2020, which slowed filming once more.

Season 2 filming finished in early April 2021, and Hissrich revealed in May that Netflix was "deep into post-production" on the second season.

Netflix has also revealed that the first episode of The Witcher season 2 will adapt the short storey A Grain of Truth by Andrzej Sapkowski. This storey was originally just about Geralt and his encounter with the cursed part-beast, part-man Nivellan, but the show has expanded it to include Ciri. The Witcher season 2 cast

Season 2 will see the addition of four recognisable witches to the cast. First and foremost, Kim Bodnia will portray Geralt's grizzled old father figure Vesemir. He's the world's oldest and wisest living witcher, as well as the man who grew up with Geralt at Kaer Morhen and shaped him into the witcher he is today (literally). Eskel, played by Thue Ersted Rasmussen, sarcastic jerk witcher Lambert, played by Paul Bullion, and Ciri's sword combat master Con, played by Yasen Atour, are the other three characters.

Kristofer Hivju will play Nivellin, which is an odd casting choice. Fans of the books will remember that name from one of the most popular Witcher novels, The Last Wish. Hivju, who portrayed Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones, is as close to perfect casting as you can get.

The Witcher season 2 plot details

"Believing Yennefer was killed at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia transports Princess Cirilla to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen," according to Netflix's storey summary. "While the Continent's rulers, elves, humans, and demons fight for supremacy outside its walls, he must safeguard the girl from a far more terrifying threat: the unknown power she possesses within."

Season 2 appears to incorporate the Wild Hunt, according to photographs taken during filming by fansite Redanian Intelligence. The Wild hunts are The Witcher 3's final foes and subtitle, and readers of the novels will recognise them from their pursuit of Ciri in the fourth book, Time of Contempt. We don't know how big of a show these terrifying riders will put on just yet.

Season 2's timeline will be more linear now that all of The Witcher's core protagonists are in one area (and at the same time), according to Hissrich in an AMA with fans. Season 2 will also "get deeper into Cahir and Fringilla," the plot's current bad men, according to Hissrich.

The Witcher Season 3 news

The Witcher season 3 hasn't been formally announced, according to showrunner Lauren Hissrich. "Our attention is on Season 2," she said during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, adding that "we need a strong Season 2 if we have any hope of having a Season 3."
