Pokémon Go: Can you catch a Shock Drive Genesect?

For a limited period, Genesect (Shock Drive) will emerge in Pokémon Go five-star raids. From January 15 to January 24, you can try to catch it. You have just over a week to locate it in a five-star raid, defeat it, and then capture it. When you do, this Genesect will recognize the charged move Techno Blast as an Electric-type attack. Will you be able to catch a shiny Genesect (Shock Drive) in Pokémon Go if you try?

Given prior Genesect events with versions of this Pokémon with alternative drives, we can confirm that you will not be able to catch the shiny version. This is due to the fact that this unique Genesect does not have shiny versions in Pokémon Go. Only the regular Genesect version has a chance to be shiny, and that is only if Niantic clears it and makes Genesect available in five-star raids.

Because it's a distinct version of the ordinary Genesect, there isn't a shiny version of Genesect (Shock Drive). Because it's deemed unique, don't expect to see any shiny variants of this Pokémon in the mobile game unless Niantic makes an announcement. If you see a shiny Geneset, it's the normal edition, and it won't recognize any of the unusual techno blast variations. In Pokémon Go, the different Genesect drive Pokémon have distinct colors to indicate which drive they're utilizing.
