Season 1 of Alice in Borderland premiered in December 2020, but Netflix has just announced that season 2 will be released in December 2022. Original Asian content on Netflix experienced phenomenal growth in 2020, thanks to the streaming giant's global audience. The great Alice in Borderland series, a Japanese science fiction drama based on Haro Aso's graphic novel of the same name, spearheaded that drive.

Chota and his friends are thrown into another universe where they are confined and must play deadly games to survive. Thankfully, the release date for Season 2 of Alice in Borderland has been announced by Netflix!

NETFLIX WASTED NO TIME IN RENEWING ALICE IN BORDERLAND

Following the conclusion of season 1, fans all over the world were aware that Robot Communications (the production firm behind the J-drama) and Netflix were working on a second season.

This was due to the numerous 'Easter eggs' that appeared in the final sequence of the ninth episode, where adverts for Season 2 can be seen on buildings and blimps. Fans of Alice in Borderland received an early Christmas present two weeks later, on December 24th, 2020: confirmation that season 2 was in the works. Netflix's YouTube channel posted a promotional video confirming the renewal, which simply read, "Season 2 is coming!"

The producers would be foolish if they did not continue the outstanding action-packed series, which has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91 percent, 7.6/10 on IMDB, 8.8/10 on MyDramaList, and 91 percent on AsianWiki — but when will season 2 premiere?

What to expect from Alice in Borderland season 2?

The first season covered around 31 chapters of the manga, leaving another 33 chapters to be covered in the second season. Throughout the first season, Arisu, the series' hero, had been dealt a bad hand. Initially arriving with two of his pals, Korube and Chota, Arisu's buddies eventually sacrificed themselves to secure Arisu's advancement.

The ten of hearts game, in which the residents of the beach had to correctly guess who the "Witch" was, was the season's climax. Many participants were slain in the turmoil of the game as a result of the infighting, but Arisu was able to accurately identify the identity of the Witch, revealing it to be Momoka.

Following Niragi's destruction of the beach home, the contestants disposed of the witch's body on a bonfire, effectively ending the game. Momoka and Asahi were not rivals, but rather dealers, as Arisu and Usagi learned. The dealers' job was to derail games in exchange for visas. Arisu and Usagi were able to find the underground control room thanks to the evidence on Momoka's phone, but the gamemasters had been killed, as they suspected.

In the last seconds of the game, a woman named Mira emerges on the screens and announces that the games have just begun, inviting everyone to compete in the next level. When the participants returned to the surface, they saw blimps soaring around Tokyo with cards dangling from beneath them.

Arisu and Usagi have a long way to go before they can escape, as there are still many games to be played. If the two are to solve the mystery surrounding the universe and who the gamemasters are that control it, they will have to keep playing the games.

Season 2 cast of Alice in Borderland

Tao Tsuchiya (Yuzuha Usagi) and Kento Yamazaki (Ryhei Arisu) have both indicated that they will return for season two. Aya Asahina (Hikari Kuina), Nijir Murakami (Shuntar Chishiya), Riisa Naka (Mira Kano), and Sho Aoyagi are also possible candidates (Aguni Morizono).

Other characters could come back to life through flashbacks or even unexpected twists. If that happens, Keita Machida (Daikichi Karube), Yki Morinaga (Chta Segawa), Nobuaki Kaneko (Takeru Danma/Hatter), Kina Yazaki (Momoka Inoue), Shuntar Yanagi (Takatora Samura/Last Boss), and Mizuki Yoshida (Asahi Kuj) could all return in season two.

Alice In Borderland season 2 on Netflix release date

Netflix held its Japan Festival on November 9th, 2021, and released a 14-minute promotional film for its upcoming Asian releases. Around the 8-minute mark, the streaming giant played a clip from the Alice in Borderland J-drama and announced that season 2 would be released in December 2022.

The lead actors Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya would subsequently declare that season 2 filming had already begun and that the cast and crew were looking forward to finishing the project.
