The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is coming soon, with a February 9 launch date officially confirmed, and leaks and rumours for all three handsets in the range have been flying in thick and fast. These are the successors of the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, but they also have to fill the big shoes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 21, which was cancelled in 2021, much to the chagrin of Samsung fans.
The Galaxy S22 is the company's first big traditional phone in more than a year. Although the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with S Pen stylus support and the clamshell Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 launched at the same price as flagship phones, the Galaxy S22 is the next big Android phone for the vast majority of the consumers.

Samsung Galaxy S22: what you need to know
The Samsung Galaxy S22 will be released on February 9th, according to Samsung. We don't have an official release date yet, but a leak suggests the S22 Ultra will be released on February 25 and the other two models on March 11.
Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S22 is unknown, although the Samsung Galaxy S21 started at $799 / £769 / AU$1,249. However, rumours say that each model's price will jump by roughly $100.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus are expected to look similar to their predecessors, with the S22 Ultra rumoured to have a more angular design similar to the Galaxy Note series. The backs of all three phones might be made of glass.
Colors: According to a rumour, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus will be available in white, black, pink gold, and green, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra would be available in black, white, green, and dark red.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is expected to have a 6.06-inch screen, while the S22 Plus will have a 6.55-inch screen and the S22 Ultra will have a 6.81-inch screen. All three models are expected to have a 120Hz refresh rate, although the lesser two will likely have FHD+ resolutions while the Ultra will have QHD+ resolutions.
The S22 and S22 Plus are expected to boast 50MP main cameras, 12MP ultra-wide cameras, and 12MP telephoto cameras. The Ultra's camera specs are less clear, however, it could contain a 108MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 10MP telephoto lenses.
Specs: Depending on location, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 chipset will be used, along with the same RAM and storage as the S21 line. That means the Ultra model has up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while the other models have up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Mind you, a recent source suggested that the S22 Ultra could have up to 1TB of storage.
The S22 will have a 3,700mAh battery, the S22 Plus will have a 4,500mAh battery, and the S22 Ultra will have a 5,000mAh battery, according to leaks. Except for the Ultra, all of these would be smaller than the S21 batteries. However, the S22 Ultra's charging speed could be improved, possibly to 45W.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S22 RELEASE DATE
The next Samsung Unpacked event is scheduled for February 9, and it's almost certain that the company will unveil its new Galaxy S22 smartphone family at that time. Other Galaxy devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, are also expected. On February 9, it will begin at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT / 3 p.m. GMT (or 1 a.m. AEST on February 10) as a wholly virtual event.
We don't know for sure when the Samsung Galaxy S22 will be available, but a leak suggests it will be available on February 24. That would make sense, given Samsung's habit of waiting two weeks between announcing a handset and putting it on sale.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 series, for example, was unveiled on January 14, 2021, and went on sale on January 29. However, a more recent leak has pointed to February 25, claiming that only the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be available on that date, with supply chain issues preventing the other two models from shipping until March 11 - though all three models will reportedly be available for pre-order on February 9.
So there's some confusion, and we'll have to wait until the big reveal event to find out when these phones will be available for purchase. When it does go on sale, you'll want to place your order as soon as possible, especially if you want an S22 Ultra, since a leak claims that due to high demand, delivery could take up to three months.

We don't know for sure how much the Samsung Galaxy S22 will cost, but according to one rumour, the basic S22 will cost $899 (about £660 / AU$1,245), the Galaxy S22 Plus will cost $1,099 (roughly £805 / AU$1,525), and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will cost $1,299 (nearly £955 / AU$1,800).
The Samsung Galaxy S21 began at $799 / £769 / AU$1,249, the S21 Plus began at $999 / £949 / AU$1,549, and the S21 Ultra began at $1,199 / £1,149 / AU$1,849. So, if the above leak is correct, each model will cost $100 more than its predecessor in the United States, with similar price increases expected elsewhere.
We recently learned that the S22 will cost €849 in Europe, €1,049 in Europe for the S22 Plus, and €1,249 in Europe for the S22 Ultra. Those are the same prices as the Galaxy S21's beginning price, and we've heard them before.

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES OF THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S22
Your Samsung Galaxy S22 will most likely come with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or a Samsung Exynos 2200 chipset. Which one you get will be determined by where you reside, as one leak explains in detail.
Both of these chipsets are now official, with Samsung's Exynos 2200 being the newer of the two. It has an AMD GPU, which means it can do both ray tracing and variable rate shading. In comparison to the Snapdragon 888, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 claims a 20% faster CPU, 30% lower power consumption (for longer battery life), and more.
Both chipsets will deliver similar performance, according to leaked benchmarks on a handset that we believe is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. We expect it to be slightly better than the S21 series, but not significantly so. Furthermore, while the RAM quantity may remain the same, Samsung may employ faster RAM, as it just revealed RAM that is over 1.3x faster while consuming nearly 20% less power - but the company hasn't confirmed whether this RAM would be used in the Galaxy S22 range.
