Snowdrop Release Date For US and UK Fans

Disney Plus officially released the official North American and European streaming release date for the Korean drama Snowdrop this week. In December 2021, one particular series, Snowdrop, began to dominate the global debate regarding Korean dramas.

The 16-episode K-drama was conceived as the crown jewel of Disney Plus, serving as the flagship series for the streaming service's premiere in South Korea and throughout Asia. Fans outside of Asia, on the other hand, had to wait patiently for news on the series' international release, frequently banning terms on social media to avoid spoilers.

Thankfully, Disney Plus recently confirmed when Snowdrop would be available for OTT streaming in North America and Europe.

THE NORTH AMERICAN RELEASE DATE FOR SNOWDROP HAS BEEN CONFIRMED

Snowdrop will be available for streaming in North America and Europe on Wednesday, February 9th, according to Disney Plus and Polygon. Fans in North America and Europe will be able to watch all 16 episodes at once starting at 12 a.m. Pacific Time (8 a.m. GMT/9 a.m. CET) on February 9th. On December 18th, 2021, the series premiered on JTBC, a South Korean television network, and ran till January 30th, 2022.

Throughout its television run, Snowdrop was accessible to stream on the Disney Plus site, with new episodes airing approximately one hour after the South Korean broadcast ended. Snowdrop was only available through Disney Plus in Asian areas, such as South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. The series will be available on Star+ in Latin America beginning February 9th.

Snowdrop fans who saw the series during its domestic broadcast will know that the K-drama had a contentious run in South Korea. After the premiere in December 2021, there was a lot of controversy in South Korea about the main character in Snowdrop being a North Korean spy during the democratization process.

In just a few weeks, a petition advocating for the series' cancellation had gathered 300,000 signatures, causing JTBC to issue a statement in response to the uproar. Snowdrop, unfortunately, was never able to really transcend the controversy in South Korea, with domestic viewership disappointingly low during its broadcast on JTBC.

The series gained critical acclaim and great popularity in Asia, where it was the most-watched show on Disney Plus in numerous Asian markets. Snowdrop has an 8.7/10 on MyDramaList, an 8.9/10 on IMDB, and a 91 percent on AsianWiki at the time of writing.
