While there are many terrifying bosses to face as part of Elden Ring's main tale, there are also a number of optional bosses; some of these foes will require you to meet certain requirements before you may face them. The Regal Ancestor Spirit, which can be found in Nokron, Eternal City, is one of these bosses. You won't be able to fight it straight soon, though. Here's how to track down the Regal Ancestor Spirit and defeat it.

Identifying the boss

Before taking on this boss, you must first beat Starscourge Radahn, which will grant you entry to Nokron, Eternal City. You'll face Mimic Tear as you make your way through the city before reaching a bridge. You'll need to ignite six lights spread throughout the field at the end of this bridge in order to confront the boss. On the map below, we've identified the location of each lantern with a walking person as a marker.

Head to Hallowhorn Grounds in the northeast corner of the map once you've lit all six flames. You'll notice a big shimmering skeleton of a deer. If you interact with it, you'll be transported to a cave. You'll spawn next to a Stake of Marika, with a Mist Gate leading to the boss in front of you.

The fight

The struggle against the Regal Ancestor Spirit is rather basic. It has a somewhat diverse moveset, however, most of them are simple to evade. The boss's moves are listed below, along with how you should react to them:

Midair hop: The spirit will leap into the air, execute two midair jumps, and then halt briefly before attempting to descend on you. Because of your roll's invincibility frames, if you roll forward just as the spirit begins to attack you, this attack should miss you.

Magic breathe: The spirit will spit magic on the battlefield. This strike is usually performed on the ground, although it can also be performed while floating in midair. You may just outrun this strike in either case. However, be aware that the magic lasts for a few seconds after it reaches the ground; touching it may cause damage, so roll through or jump over it if approaching the spirit.

Charge: The spirit may charge you if you're a long way away. You'll be able to roll right through this assault if you roll forward as the boss approaches.

Three-hit combo: The spirit typically performs one of two three-hit combos. It might try to attack you with its antlers three times in a row, or it might try two strikes with its antlers followed by a stomp. By rolling towards the boss, you can avoid all of these moves.

Stomp/Horse kick: The boss may perform the stomp without doing any other moves first. Simply roll to escape harm if this occurs. If you're behind the monster, it'll try to kick you like a horse instead of stomping, which you may avoid by rolling away from it.

Powered-up antler strike: The spirit will occasionally shine white while attacking. This indicates that it will launch a more powerful strike. Fortunately, like most of its other strikes, you can roll to evade its enhanced antler strike.

Three stomps: The spirit will flash white, stand exclusively on its hind legs, and then leap to its feet before attempting to stomp down on you. It will repeat this process three times. As the spirit descends upon you, simply roll away.

Goat roll: The spirit is not a goat, but it will roll in a similar manner to the goats seen across The Lands Between on occasion. It will light white, wrap up into a ball, and then roll towards you. When it approaches, do not roll to the sides or backward. Instead, use your invincibility frames to roll forward and slightly to the left or right to avoid harm.

Teleportation: If the spirit appears to be shriveling up and about to die, it is about to teleport. It will drop to the ground, vanish, then resurface somewhere else in the arena.

Heal: The spirit will quickly heal itself by generating an AOE energy field around itself. This move has the potential to heal up to half of the boss' total health. This is the spirit's most vexing ability, and the worst thing is that there's no way to stop him from healing the boss. Try not to out damage its heal; it heals far too quickly, and the AOE field will injure you as well. The easiest way to fight this strategy is to kill the boss before it heals.

Given how irritating the healing ability may be, you'll need to be able to do a lot of damage to win this battle. We recommend waiting until you're at level 70 or so to take on this boss. We used a Strength-based character with a +8 Greatsword to fight the boss at level 70.

Melee builds should concentrate on rolling through all of the Regal Ancestor Spirit's melee moves and attempting to land a hit or two after each. Don't be scared to go for broke during this fight, as the monster doesn't appear to have any one-hit-kill moves, so you can afford to suffer a few hits.

If it heals, don't be disheartened; just keep evading and retaliating, and it should go down in approximately five minutes. Ranged attackers can use their choice projectile, but be aware that the boss's rapid speed may make it a difficult target to strike. You'll receive the Remembrance of the Regal Ancestor once it's gone down, which you may deliver to Enia in exchange for some important items.
