Elden Ring: What are Aberrant Sorceries and where to find them

One of the ways Elden Ring develops on previous Fromsoftware games is by placing a greater emphasis on magic, which results in a plethora of new sorceries to pick from. The Aberrant Sorceries are one type of offensive spell. Aberrant Sorceries takes some cues from Bloodtinge weaponry from Bloodborne and makes the caster take damage for every bloody bramble of thorns they send forth, making it ideal for high faith classes like the Prophet.

Briars of Sin is the first of the two Aberrant Sorceries, an AoE spell that whips up the caster's own blood into a whirlwind of thorns and requires 24 faith to use. Briars of Sin is dropped by mob foes across a few rocks at the Liurnia of the Lakes, which is northwest of the Artists Shack.

Briars of Sin is low-cost sorcery in terms of stamina and FP, but it steadily depletes the caster's health with each use. Because of this HP damage and the spell's limitless chain ability, it's entirely possible to cast yourself to death while spamming Briars of Sin.

Briars of Punishment is the more powerful sibling of Briars of Sin. Briars of Punishment, which requires 21 faith to cast, inflict the same thorny, gory damage but from a wider range. It's near the bridge with the Golem Archer near the end of the Mountain of the Giants region off of the Lesser Fire Monks. The Staff of the Guilty and Alberich's armor set can also help with Aberrant Sorceries.
