Elden Ring: What are Those Who Live in Death?
Elden Ring, like other FromSoftware games, is full of characters who speak in mysterious tones and use a variety of poetic terms. When you first encounter D, Hunter of the Dead, he'll inform you that he specializes in hunting "Those Who Live in Death," and item descriptions for specific weapons will tell you if they're useful against that group. However, who or what are "Those Who Live in Death?"
In a nutshell, it's a fancy way of stating "dead." If a weapon is efficient against "Those Who Live in Death," it suggests it's best used against undead foes like skeleton troops, Tibia Mariners, and ghosts.
When killing bosses who live in death, such as the Tibia Mariners, you're most likely to find Deathroot, a critical item required to obtain special items from the Beast Clergyman. If you have the Beast Eye, you will receive an on-screen message whenever you are near an opponent or treasure chest carrying Deathroot, signaling the presence of Those Who Live in Death. Deathroot isn't carried by every undead adversary you encounter; it's an uncommon occurrence.
Elden Ring is a large game with numerous weapons, goods, and NPCs to discover. Check out our coverage of this open-world game to learn where to discover all of the Walking Mausoleums, how to defeat Tarnished-Eater Anastasia, and where to find the Harp Bow.
