That isn't the case with Horizon Forbidden West.

Face paints are an important feature of the game's main character since they set her out from the others. There's a lot to appreciate and pick from, and here's how to get involved.

What are face paints in Horizon Forbidden West?

Face paints are one of numerous cosmetics available in Horizon Forbidden West that may be used to change Aloy's appearance. They serve no purpose other than to provide choices to the protagonist's appearance, just as other cosmetics.

Players will come across a variety of NPCs throughout the game. Face paints from several tribes have been applied to each of them. As a result, when supporters play, they can also represent a tribe.

How to unlock face paints in Horizon Forbidden West

The main plot task as well as side quests can unlock a large number of face paints in Horizon Forbidden West. As you progress through the game, you'll notice that face paint appears as a reward for accomplishing tasks.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to use them until you reach Scalding Spear, which is located in the third main area. This means that, depending on how far you've explored or followed the story, you can find yourself running around with paints in your pockets and no way to use them.

How to apply face paint in Horizon Forbidden West

You'll need to find a Painter merchant in a settlement to apply face paint. Speak to the Painter once you've discovered them and they'll gladly apply the face paint of your choice for 10 Metal Shards.

Conversely, if you want to remove face paint to make room for a new one, speak with the NPC again, and they'll do it for 1 Metal Shard. It's worth mentioning that you can use face paint while in Photo Mode, but it won't stay on Aloy when you return to the game.

Where to find Painters in Horizon Forbidden West

Painters, as previously stated, are NPCs who apply face paint to Aloy. In Horizon Forbidden West, there are three in each of the major Tenakth settlements: Scalding Spear, The Bulwark, and Thornmash.
