In Pokémon Go, incense is an extremely useful commodity, especially for people who live in places where there aren't many Pokémon. For a certain time after activating an Incense, you will have a substantially increased spawn rate in your radius. In some rare circumstances, Pokémon will not appear unless you use Incense. Here's how to fix an Incense if you feel it's not working properly.

Walk around

Moving around is the first tip we have for getting your Incense to create additional Pokémon. Niantic has tweaked Incense's functionality to benefit players that want to wander around the game rather than sit in one place. If you remain immobile for five minutes, a Pokémon will spawn from the Incense. However, if you're moving, one will appear every 30 seconds.

This is a big nerf that will have a significant impact on your ability to play from home or if you have mobility issues. With this in mind, we prefer Pokéstop Lures over Incenses if you wish to catch Pokémon in one location for an extended period of time. Of course, this necessitates your presence in a given location.

Check your time settings

If you're certain that your Incense issues are caused by a bug rather than game updates, it could be related to the time on your device.

Android

Open your Android Settings app and look for Date and Time, or go to General Management and look for the area. Make sure that Automatic Date and Time is turned on so that your network can keep you on track.

iOS

Similarly, on iOS, go to General in Settings. Make sure the Set Automatically option is turned on under Date & Time.
