Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: What are bottlecap shortcuts?
When you first enter Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' Overworld, you'll notice huge, real-world objects strewn throughout the map. A bottlecap with a rabbit face on it is one such object. When knocked down, these bottlecaps provide permanent routes between regions in the Overworld. The bottlecaps are also a technique for Wonderlands to imitate playing a tabletop roleplaying game on a game board. The game master will build a bridge, a fortress, or anything else that is needed in the imagined world with whatever he or she has on hand.
Because these bottlecaps are standing up and facing away on the other side of an uncrossable divide, there is no way to interact with them at first. However, when you circle the map, you'll ultimately come to the side with the face. When you get close enough and hit the Melee button, the bottlecap will fall, spanning the distance and allowing you to use the shortcut. A bottlecap shortcut that appears to be impassable is sometimes located near a linked dungeon. On the map, the entrance and exit of these dungeons are extremely close to one another, and completing the encounter inside will send you out the opposite side, generally with the bottlecap close at hand.
However, you won't be able to reach every bottlecap right away. As you proceed through the main tale, the map of Wonderlands alters and evolves. Additional paths and shortcuts become available when you enter and exit later areas. While playing, keep an eye out for "unreachable" bottlecap shortcuts. After completing a few key plot missions, you might be able to take them out.
