Elden Ring: How to use Straight Swords and where to find them

Elden Ring features lots of Straight Swords to satisfy and extend the horizons of any newbie Souls/Borne player. Straight Swords can be used in a variety of ways and scale with Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Faith in some instances. Straight Swords are great for learning the basics of Elden Ring combat. Straight swords allow three or four hits on beefier adversaries before rolling out of damage or raising a shield to survive a few hits - if the Straight Swords wielder has the required Endurance.

Straight Swords also do well with damage and stagger, especially if they've been boosted with Smiting Stones. Straight Swords don't deliver as much damage as Great or Colossal Swords, but they don't have the same extensive cool-down and wind-up animations. Aside from the more common Straight Swords, these are some of the more sought-after Straight Swords in Elden Ring:

Coded Sword: The Coded Sword is a Straight Sword hilt with a line of text emanating from it that is utilized as the blade. Confessor, Prophet, and other Faith-focused character builds will appreciate the Coded Sword's low need of 20 Faith instead of Strength or Dexterity. The Coded Sword can be found at Leyndell, the Royal Capital.

Golden Epitaph: Undead with Tango? The Golden Epitaph may be your holy blade. The Golden Epitaph's skill, Last Rite, makes short work of undead and relies on Faith, Strength, and Dexterity to scale. Auriza Hero's Grave has the Golden Epitaph.

Ornamental Straight Sword: The Ornamental Straight Sword is a duel-wielded weapon that takes 14 Dexterity and 10 Strength to use and has its own dual-wielding move set as its Skill. The Ornamental Straight Sword can be obtained early in the game by defeating the first boss, the Grafted Scion, or by returning to the Four Belfries via the portal gate.

Sword of Night and Flame: The Sword of Night and Flame is a must-have for all Sorcery builds, and really any build that can get to 24 Faith and Intelligence for the sword's base prerequisites. The Sword of Night and Flame's Night-and-Flame Stance skill offers god-like boss-killing magic. Caria Manor has the Sword of Night and Flame.
