Horizon Forbidden West: Where to find owls

If you've managed to obtain some of the best bows in Horizon Forbidden West, you're undoubtedly discovering that you're always running out of ammo or, more specifically, the Machine Muscle required to create additional ammo. Machine Muscle is looted from machines and occasionally found in containers, but it may also be purchased from Hunters. But not for metal shards. Owl Wishbone is always sought after by hunters in exchange for Machine Muscle, but owls are difficult to come by.

Owls can be spotted all over the map on mountain roads and mountain slopes, but the greatest places to see owls in Horizon Forbidden West are shown on the maps below. Owl Wishbone is rarely dropped by owls because they are usually found alone. You should also be cautious if you come across one, as they have a tendency to fly away swiftly. Use your focus to find them from afar, tag them so you don't lose them, and shoot them before they fly away.

• Near a mountain path northwest of The Base.
• On the mountain slopes about halfway between Relic Ruins: The Long Coast and Tallneck: The Stand of the Sentinels.
