Sniper Elite 5: How to Use Stealth

While the easiest solution is to escape detection by not being seen, you must also consider how much noise you produce, your position in the opponent's field of view, and how your activities may cause the enemy to track you down if you're not careful. Some missions, especially Mission 2 on your first playthrough, will not provide enough noise cover, such as planes flying overhead, to muffle the sounds of your rifle as you take down soldiers, so it's sometimes best to take down enemies up close after moving through the cover of tall grass or obstacles or to avoid enemies entirely. Remember that if enemies' bodies are discovered, searches may ensue, so if you kill foes or leave them unconscious, keep any surrounding soldiers in mind.

Consider finding ways to distract the opponent to avoid combat entirely, in addition to being aware of who you choose to incapacitate. Things like generators or phonographs that can be turned on to create a distraction can attract adversaries, resulting in opportunities. If you don't have them, consider using the whistle in your inventory to pull the opponent away, forcing them to explore but not go into a fighting mode like when they hear a gunshot. Worst-case scenario, you can blast an explosive far away from you, prompting attackers to scour the area and mistake surrounding areas for your last known location, allowing you to slip through during the commotion.

Finally, stroll or crawl while hunched or crawling, rather than jogging or running erect, as this is clearly heard. Silencers on most weapons lower the audible distance from which gunshots can be heard; despite their name, silencers only conceal the flash of the gunshot and some of the noise, thus keeping your distance from any shot. You'll be rapidly swamped if you're detected in a high-pressure situation or create an alert, so if you have to take a shot that risks detection, swiftly move to a different location so you can pick off any foes that respond by searching the area.
