Evil Dead: How to fix screen resolution

Evil Dead fans had a fantastic Friday the 13th, as the long-awaited Evil Dead: The Game was finally published for all platforms. Saber Interactive even bumped up the release schedule by a few hours, which came as a welcome surprise to those who stayed up late to see the launch. However, the news isn't all rosy. Those who purchased Evil Dead: The Game on PC quickly discovered that the game did not have important video options such as the ability to prevent motion blur, lock FPS, or modify screen resolution.

There are workaround options you can try if you're having problems with Evil Dead: The Game's resolution or other video settings. Begin by going to the following folder on your computer: C:\Users [USERNAME]\AppData\Local\EvilDead\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor.This will direct you to the game's settings and launch options folders. You'll need to change the GameUserSettings.ini file, which contains all of Evil Dead: The Game's video options, including some that aren't accessible through the game's Settings menu. Make a backup of this file and open it in Notepad or another text editor just in case.

As you can see, altering this file gives you access to many video settings that the game's UI doesn't. To adjust your chosen resolution, start by altering the ResolutionSizeX and ResolutionSizeY lines. In Evil Dead: The Game, you can lock your FPS rate and modify other video settings after you've fixed your resolution.

While this fix has helped some customers, others continue to have problems. Changing your monitor's settings (by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop and selecting Display Settings) to match the preset resolution in the GameUserSettings.ini file is a less convenient workaround. You won't be forced to play in Windowed mode, which is its own brand of hell because you can't lock your mouse within the window.

Saber Interactive will almost certainly release a hotfix shortly to enable more video settings as well as potentially resolve other player complaints. Meanwhile, we hope that these techniques have assisted you in changing your resolution and resolving video settings issues in Evil Dead: The Game.
