Destiny 2: Throwing hammers got a silent nerf in Season 17
Bungie has quietly nerfed throwing hammers in Destiny 2, which is a sad day for Titans. The skill known as the Throwing Hammer, in particular, was affected by this nerf. With the current Solar 3.0 builds, this ability was thought to be quite strong, and with superb team play, it could actually melt bosses. Bungie, on the other hand, wanted to keep the subclasses balanced, thus they nerfed this ability in Destiny 2's recent update. Surprisingly, these modifications were not noted in the patch notes. Bungie later verified the adjustments on Twitter after the community figured it out on their own.
Roaring Flames nerfed in Destiny 2
The Throwing Hammer skill in Destiny 2 had a base damage of about 28,000 hit points before the current upgrade. This damage tripled greatly while the Roaring Flames bonus was active, and it continued to increase as the Roaring Flames buff accumulated. The Roaring Flame boost made the Throwing Hammer ability incredibly devastating when used with the Synthoceps exotic arm armor in the game. After the new update, everything has changed. The Roaring Flames bonus has been adjusted, and it will now be activated by Solar ability kills and Solar ignition kills, as announced on Twitter.
This buff's damage scaling was also decreased to compensate for its longer duration. Roaring Flames enhanced combatant ability damage by 30% at first, but after the update, it was decreased to just 20%. The bonus ability damage dealt with hostile players was also lowered from 25% to 13%. To make matters worst, when Synthoceps, Pergerine Greaves, Wormgod Caress, and One-Two Punch were used together, the melee damage bonus was decreased. While this nerf does reduce Titans' massive DPS potential, it has had no significant impact on the character as a whole.
There are still a lot of Titan builds that make them nigh unbeatably. In fact, there's a Titan build centered on the Lorelei Splendor exotic that renders Titans unstoppable. Overall, the nerf did not sit well with the community. Although many in the community agreed that a nerf was warranted, they believed it was necessary to acknowledge it in the patch notes. Bungie's senior community manager, Dylan Gafner, admitted on Twitter that the devs had forgotten to include the specifics regarding the nerf in the patch notes. He went on to say that after they discovered the problem, the details were appended to the patch notes.
The nerf remains in place for the time being, and Bungie has not restored it. After the Solar 3.0 revamp, Titans were far too powerful, therefore a nerf was necessary. The Titans are unlikely to be nerfed any further. However, given the company's history of nerfing characters, it wouldn't be surprising if the Titans were nerfed again in Destiny 2.
