Is Post-Offices Open During The Queen’s Jubilee Holiday?

The Queen's Jubilee vacation has produced a lot of confusion over opening hours, with most stores and businesses adjusting their hours to coincide with the festivities. The Post Office will be closed for two days beginning on Thursday, June 2nd, due to the extended bank holiday. "We don't normally deliver or collect on the bank and public holidays," according to the Royal Mail website, which also provides a complete schedule.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE REST OF THE JUBILEE WEEKEND

While the rest of the country celebrates the long weekend, Post Office and administrative staff are preparing to go on strike on Saturday, June 4th. Crown Post Offices, not those owned by third parties, will be affected by the strike. It's designed to wreak the most havoc at a time when employee compensation is least likely to be affected. Andy Furey, Assistant Secretary for the Communications Workers Union (CWU), said: “Affordability isn’t management’s problem here. Frankly, their degrading excuse for an offer has only hardened members, who won’t tolerate a collapse in their living standards.”

The CWU is demanding a backdated pay raise for labor done during the epidemic; the strike has the support of 97.3 percent of CWU members nationwide, and a 70 percent turnout is expected. While you should always check your local Post Office for business hours, service may be slower during the Jubilee vacation. Due to the strike, customer frustrations are expected to escalate, and more individuals may choose to use a different courier.
