The matches can also be streamed via the ESPN App. On July 7, ESPN will broadcast a doubleheader featuring the Orlando Magic vs. the Denver Nuggets and the Detroit Pistons vs. the Portland Trail Blazers. NBA Summer League 2022 Format, Tiebreaker Rules
In the competition, each of the 30 teams will play five games. There will be no postseason or second round, with each club needing to win as many games as possible to secure the top two seedings. In essence, the championship round will feature the two teams with the best records. The NBA Summer League 2022 format is as follows, courtesy of NBA.com:
- The NBA 2K23 Summer League 2022 will take place in Las Vegas from July 7 to July 17, and will feature all 30 NBA clubs.
- During the 11-day tournament, 75 games will be played.
- A total of five games will be played by each side.
- From July 7 to 15, each club will play four games.
- On July 17, the top two teams from their first four games will compete in the Championship Game. The winning percentage will decide the seeding for the Championship Game.
- On July 16 or 17, the 28 teams who did not qualify for the Championship Game will play the fifth game.
- Various criteria, such as team rivalries, television interest, and other scheduling issues, will determine the consolation games (e.g., timing of back-to-backs).
The league has also simplified the tie-breaker criteria, owing to the high likelihood of teams finishing in a record tie. If just two teams are tied, the league will look at their head-to-head game first–even if it's only applicable in one case. The higher seed will go to the side that won the said meeting. The use of a point-differential is the second tie-breaker rule. The higher seeding goes to the club with the greater point differential. If there are more than two teams tied for first place in the standings, the league will look at the point differential first. If the teams are still tied in both cases, the seeding will be determined by a "random drawing." The coin flip will be used for the said random draw.
2022 California Classic and Salt Lake City Summer Leagues
The Warriors will host the annual California Classic at Chase Center before the NBA 2K23 Summer League 2022. The Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sacramento Kings are among the teams expected to compete. Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz will host the Salt Lake City Summer League once again, where they will face the Memphis Grizzlies, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA 2K23 Summer League 2022 will begin on July 2 and end on July 7, immediately before the California Classic and Salt Lake City Summer Leagues begin.
