Conditions are favorable, according to Environment Canada, for the formation of severe thunderstorms that might bring about powerful wind gusts, huge hail, and torrential rain. The meteorological service predicts that thunderstorm activity will continue to grow this afternoon (June 26) and last through this evening.

For areas including Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Ardrossan, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Redwater, Lamont, and Bruderheim, a thunderstorm watch is in effect. According to the weather service, conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that might produce huge hail, significant wind gusts, and heavy rain.

When the atmosphere is conducive to the development of thunderstorms that could bring about huge hail, damaging winds, or copious rain, severe thunderstorm watches are issued. Strong wind gusts have the power to overturn heavy vehicles, break branches off trees, damage fragile buildings, and create massive hail to cause property damage and injuries.
