iPhone 14 Pro Max: Release date, Price, Specifications, and More details

The iPhone 14 line is rapidly approaching, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is supposed to be the best, most costly, and possibly the most fascinating of the four speculated handsets. There's a lot to be excited about here, with rumors of a drastically different design, no-notch, and considerable camera advancements, among other things. In fact, if all of the rumors are true, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could be the most exciting upgrade Apple has released in years. We'll go over everything we've heard so far about this superphone, including the expected release date and pricing. iPhone 14 Pro Max release date and price

September 13 is our best prediction for when the iPhone 14 Pro Max – and the rest of the iPhone 14 series – will be unveiled. We didn't come up with that number out of thin air; rather, a leaker clearly mentioned that date. Only one source has confirmed it so far, so take it with a grain of salt, but no other precise dates have been mentioned, and September 13 would make sense, given Apple has historically unveiled new numbered iPhones around the middle of September, and usually on a Tuesday, which September 13 is.

However, you won't be able to get your hands on the phone until roughly 10 days later, most likely on Friday, September 23. While those dates appear to be accurate, there's a chance they're off, especially because Chinese lockdowns have reportedly pushed manufacturing back a few weeks. Apple, on the other hand, is said to be working to get back on track. According to one source, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be priced similarly to the iPhone 13 series, with a starting price of roughly $1,099 / £1,049 / AU$1,849 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to another source, the forthcoming phone would cost $1,199 (about £955 / AU$1,665), which is $100 (approximately £80 / AU140) more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Given the number of upgrades expected on this phone, a price increase would be understandable.

iPhone 14 Pro Max display

While the iPhone 14 Pro Max appears to be a significant leap in many aspects, its screen may not be one of them. According to Ross Young, a reliable leaker, it will sport a 6.68-inch 1284 x 2778 OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 458 pixels per inch. With those specifications, it would have the same display as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Ming-Chi Kuo has also said that the forthcoming phone will feature a 6.7-inch screen, and we don't expect Apple to adjust the size because it doesn't do so often. It's still possible that some display details, such as brightness, will change, but the screen appears to be very similar to that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max so far. Except, of course, there won't be a notch protruding from the top this time.

iPhone 14 Pro Max camera

The iPhone 14 Pro Max's camera appears to be getting a major improvement, with a 48MP main (wide) sensor replacing the 12MP sensor in its predecessor. That's according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a respected analyst who has made the assertion multiple times, but another expert has now echoed it. This camera would reportedly be able to shoot 8K video (up from 4K on the iPhone 13 Pro Max) and would be accompanied by two other cameras. We don't know much about the other two, but they could be the same as the others, with a 12MP ultrawide sensor and a 12MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. There has been speculation of a periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, but the current belief is that it won't be available until the iPhone 15 range next year.

iPhone 14 Pro Max specs and features

The A16 Bionic chipset is expected to be used in the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is not surprising given that the current model uses the A15 Bionic. It's unclear how much of an upgrade this new chipset will be. While some reports claim it will be manufactured on a 4nm or possibly 3nm process, down from 5nm for the A15 Bionic, the most recent leak suggests it will remain at 5nm. Smaller numbers are better in this case, and a change to a smaller number would normally indicate a big increase in power and/or efficiency, but even if it stays at 5nm, it will undoubtedly improve.

Depending on who you ask, the RAM will either remain at 6GB or be increased to 8GB. However, we've heard the 6GB claim more than once, so that seems more likely for the time being. Storage, on the other hand, could see a significant increase, possibly reaching a whopping 2TB. That's twice as much as the iPhone 13 Pro Max offers. Another possibility, although one that is less likely, is the use of an eSIM instead of a physical SIM card. Current iPhones have both, and if Apple makes this change, physical SIM card versions of the iPhone 14 Pro Max will almost certainly be available, given not all cell networks now allow eSIMs.

iPhone 14 Pro Max battery

According to one source, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a larger battery than its predecessor, albeit the exact size is unknown. However, because the iPhone 13 Pro Max already has exceptional battery life, this is a hopeful claim. Meanwhile, rumors of a switch from Lightning to USB-C have surfaced in the realm of implausible features. This will very certainly happen in the future, especially given that the EU has made it a mandate starting in 2024, although we doubt it will happen on the iPhone 14 range. There have also been rumors of a future portless iPhone that would solely accept wireless charging, but it doesn't appear that Apple will go that far with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
