The first milestone of No Man's Sky Expedition 8: Polestar's first Phase is called Log 1: Emergency. You need to access your freighter's log to finish it, but you've probably never had to do that before. This manual explains how to finish Log 1: Emergency so that you can get this expedition started right and move along swiftly.
How to check your Freighter’s log
You must locate and chat with the ship's captain in order to examine your freighter's record. The captain will be on the freighter's bridge and will typically be seated in front of the computer in the chair at the top of the stairs. When you interact with them, you can see a few dialogue options and speak to them. The option that you should select is "Access ship's log." Your freighter's log will be displayed in a new window as a result, but the news is not good. When the engines failed and many other systems malfunctioned, it appears that your freighter was warping between them. You're stuck right now, and the freighter needs to be fixed before you can escape.
The milestone will be finished once you exit the text window showing the log, and you should see an on-screen notification informing you of this. From the Expedition menu, you can now obtain two additional starship inventory slots, a salvaged frigate module, two wiring looms, a cargo bulkhead, and the purple-painted freighter customization. The completion of this milestone is simple. It's best to finish them in order to track rewards, though you could wait until later in the expedition once you've completed a few other milestones. In some cases, the benefits from earlier milestones are necessary to finish later phases.
