Police Car Chase Ends in Crash Into Parked Car in West Covina
Officers from West Covina encircled the alleged domestic abuser and stood guard with their weapons drawn near Broadmoor and Workman avenues. Police were pursuing the Scion that a domestic violence suspect was allegedly driving. The pursuit left West Covina and proceeded into Southeast Los Angeles on freeways. Officers from West Covina attempted to spin out the guy on Whittier's Telegraph Road, but he managed to flee and get onto the southbound 605 Freeway. Near Compton, the pursuit moved onto the eastbound 105 Freeway before continuing on the eastbound 10 Freeway in the direction of West Covina.
The vehicle eventually exited the freeway and onto surface streets in Inglewood before returning to the eastbound 105 freeway and entering Compton at speeds of up to 113 mph. The motorist then merged onto the northbound 605 in the vicinity of Norwalk. In Whittier, the driver eventually turned off onto Telegraph Road, where a police cruiser tried to halt the pursuit by ramming the suspect's vehicle. Although the suspect was momentarily slowed down, he could still turn around and return to the motorway.
Following that, the driver continued from the westbound 105 and changed to the northbound 710. A while later, the suspect changed to State Route 60 in the east. The subject, along many motorways, then pursued officers. The motorist then left the highways and stepped onto surface streets in the East San Gabriel Valley at approximately 11 p.m.
The officers attempted another PIT tactic, and it seemed to work. After turning around, the motorist crashed into a light pole. Nevertheless, after a brief confrontation, they took off once more. However, the maneuvers caused enough harm to the suspect's vehicle to terminate the pursuit a short while later. The chase stopped where it began when the suspect rear-struck a parked car on Broadmoor Avenue near W. Workman Avenue in West Covina after it seemed that one of the suspect's tires had failed.
But the story didn't end there. While police pinned the suspect's car in, the driver continued to drive away even though the automobile was damaged, the busted tire spewing sparks and flames. When FOX 11's Gina Silva arrived on the scene, witnesses reported seeing police shoot non-lethal ammunition into the car. During the standoff, a SWAT vehicle was also brought in. Although the reason for the chase was not immediately apparent, the motorist is reportedly a suspect in domestic violence, according to West Covina police.
