The Storm's Crown Trial debuted in Final Fantasy XIV's Patch 6.2: Buried Memory. In this situation, you and seven other players must engage in a titanic battle with Barbaraccia, the Empress of Wind. Although this combat is a ton of fun, staying alive does require situational awareness. Here is a list of Barbaraccia's fundamental skills and how to overcome them.
Storm’s Crown Trial Phase One in Final Fantasy XIV
The boss will start the battle by launching Aero IV, a raid-wide AoE that healers only need to recover from. Soon after, the boss will make a turn and activate an AoE ground indicator with one of the two sword images.
- Be ready to move to her sides and away from her if the swords are forming a fan shape above her since she will do a line AoE through the arena.
- Move to her sides and inwards toward her if the swords are circling her, because she will soon cast a donut-shaped AoE around the arena.
The boss will then swing her sword, which will cause an AoE circle to appear in the area of the arena she was facing. She will then rush to her sword while still attached to it, turn around, and slice the arena into a cone. In order to dodge the cone as the monster jumps, players must come in close proximity to her and position themselves on either side of her. While this is happening, players will be marked with personal circle AoEs, so they must be careful not to overlap. The Void Aero III, a circular AoE tank buster that only tanks should stack in, will then be cast by the boss.
Soon after, a new mechanic will appear, and it will overlap with existing ones throughout the rest of the fight. Teasing Tangles is an ability that will create a green circular zone in each of the four cardinal directions of the arena. Players will be drawn in by the middle hair while being attached to a randomly chosen one. The trick here is to execute the follow-up mechanics inside the green circle without touching the central hair. A player will be dragged back into the hair and given a damage dot debuff if they step beyond the circle.
Two sets of conal AoEs that fire out one after the other during teasing tangles are one of the primary mechanics that must be avoided when inside the circle. The last phase one mechanic is a stack marker on a person that the raid must soak simultaneously.
Storm’s Crown Trial Phase Two in Final Fantasy XIV
The boss will then unleash Curling Iron, an AoE that affects the whole raid and sends the boss fleeing from the arena. This briefly turns the action into a short cinematic as Barbaraccia prepares for her final attack. Protect yourself from the harm that is coming, and get ready for some significant overlaps between the current skills and some interesting new ones. The boss will launch line AoEs at arbitrary players in phase 2, which must be avoided. She will simultaneously perform curved line AoEs from the center and a dead zone just beneath her. These must all be kept away from
She will send lines out in random directions just after these curving lines, leaving a few safe zones for players to position their characters. She will then summon clones of herself all throughout the arena. Additional soak mechanisms will follow, and shortly after going off, a circular AoE will be placed underneath. Players need to move and soak. When the raid soak is complete, the boss will eventually add a tank proximity AoE. To reduce the damage the raid takes the tank that gets it must move as far away from the group as possible.
The boss will also start to pound her hands on the ground during this phase, dealing light raid damage with each blow. Players must use their anti-knockback ability or position themselves appropriately to avoid being knocked into the arena's edges when she performs a knockback. Small green tornadoes that spin out in random locations from the arena's center to the arena's edges make up the last new mechanic that occurs during this stage. Players will sometimes have to avoid these in order to stay in their Teasing Tangle rings, avoid many AoEs that look like donuts, and avoid these.
The typical version of the Storm's Crown trial basically goes like this. After successfully completing the game's easier normal version, players can take on its harder extreme variant. Players must advance through the Buried Memory main story quest all the way to The Wind Rises in order to access the Storm's Crown Trial.
