NBA Rumors: LeBron James could renew with the Lakers thanks to a 2024 Draft pick
LeBron James has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to the specialized website Spotrac. LeBron's salary for the 2022–23 NBA season is $44,474,988. The four-time NBA champion will be an unrestricted free agent following that season. LeBron James will be a forward and will be 38 years old when his 20th season begins. The forthcoming season may perhaps be his last at the highest level of basketball. Even though LeBron has already set a lot of records in the National Basketball Association, he still has a dream he wants to come true.
As LeBron's representatives and the Lakers' front staff continue to negotiate a contract extension, they are also working to develop a team that can compete for the championship the following year. But they are aware that he is the best player to guide their effort to win a second NBA championship ring. According to NBA reporter Joe Vardon for The New Orleans Pelicans now own the rights to the Los Angeles Lakers first-round draft pick in 2024. In order to keep LeBron James for at least the next two seasons, the Lakers front office must bargain for that pick. Bronny James is to blame.
LeBron James has repeatedly stated his desire to join his oldest son on the NBA team that drafts him. Therefore, Bronny won't be selected first overall if nothing significant changes. As a result, the Lakers may have a chance to select Bronny in the NBA Draft in 2024, when he will be eligible to declare and keep his father for at least another two seasons.
However, the Lakers' front office needs to persuade the Pelicans to trade their 2024 pick for their 2025 first-round pick. However, before then, and assuming they have already renewed LeBron, they may bargain for a respectable pick to select Bronny, just like they did with Max Christie this year.
