The Tennessee Titans were the target of the strike with 45 seconds remaining in the first half. After making a 12-yard grab, Jackson attacked receiver Treylon Burks from behind. Tremaine Edmunds, a linebacker, dove in late and smacked Jackson in the head while he was lying on Burks' back. After the accident, Jackson's neck suddenly jerked back. There was an approximately 10-minute delay in the game. Jackson's status was not immediately made known by the Bills.

Tre'Davious White, a third-year player who is still recovering from a left knee injury he sustained last year, was replaced at the start of the season by Jackson. The Bills' Dane Jackson, a defensive back for the Bills, was still lying on the ground after wide receiver Treylon Burks of the Titans had completed a pass. Tremaine Edmunds, a teammate of Jackson's on the Bills, dove at them as Jackson was making a tackle. Jackson's head and neck made contact with Edmunds', which caused them both to fall backward upon impact.

An ambulance was dispatched following a medical evaluation conducted on the field with players from both teams positioned around the field on their knees. Jackson was put inside the car before it left Highmark Stadium. He'll likely visit a nearby hospital for additional testing.
