The focus of this week's spotlight hour is Aron, the Iron Armor Pokémon, whose fully developed version may presently be found in Mega Raids. This indicates that now is a fantastic time to search for a shiny Aron in Pokémon Go.
Unfortunately, Aron, Lairon, and Aggron (Aron's evolved forms) are all largely ineffective in Pokémon Go raids and competitive play. The shine may still be missing, though, as Aron has never participated in a community day. If you're still looking for a 4* perfect Aron or perfect Aggron to mega evolve, now is your opportunity. Even if you don't like Aron, you should still try to catch as many Pokémon as you can during this week's spotlight hour because it comes with a double catch candy bonus.
Aron 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
This week's spotlight hour is a fantastic chance to catch an Aron with ideal IV stats. Depending on how you want to employ a specific Pokémon, the term "perfect" has two different meanings in the game. The first is the fully upgraded, 100% IV version, or the 15/15/15 that you need for your 4* Pokédex, raids, and Master League. However, because CP is based on three stats, a Pokémon with a perfect IV is usually only its best self in the Master League. Naturally, you can't view a Pokémon's IV without first catching it, but with some advanced research, you can rapidly identify a perfect Aron based on the CP alone. For a flawless 15/15/15 Aron, you should ideally be searching for the following CPs if you are level 30 or higher:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) - 1121 CP
- Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) - 1214 CP
Since most players are over Level 30, we've stuck with these values to keep things simple. The wild CP value corresponds with your trainer level until you reach Level 30. If you are currently below Level 30, however, these statistics will be different.
Is Aggron effective in PVP?
The quick answer is no. Aron, Lairon, and Aggron are all fairly awful in Go Battle League, so the quick answer is no. Although Aron has never had a community day, that may change in the future, so if you find one with strong stats, save it until you can evolve it and get an exclusive move from it. It's interesting to note that there is disagreement about the best fast move to use with Aggron, with some people preferring Dragon Tail and faster charging over the more powerful SmackDown. In either case, you want to use Heavy Slam and Stone Edge as your charged moves.
The two fast moves are perfect from a moving standpoint; they charge up quite rapidly and inflict decent damage. You can exert some pressure with just your fast move, which is excellent because Stone Edge, at 55 energy, is a respectable nuke, but Heavy Slam is only good. Aggron's double weaknesses in fighting and ground types, as well as his weakness in water-type attacks, are the true problems in this situation. Galarian Stunfisk and Swampert are clearly visible in both the Great League and Ultra League, and both leagues also have a wide range of excellent fighting types and counter-users.
These elemental vulnerabilities are once more apparent while considering Master League but to a lesser extent. Although Aggron is a reasonably defensive Pokémon, it must fight for a seat on your team against Pokémon like Genesect, Dialga, Metagross, Regirock, and Terrakion. Those odds bother me. However, if you're determined that this steel type will succeed, search for the following statistics:
- 0/14/12 for Great League
- 0/13/15 for Ultra League
- 15/15/15 for Master League
Is there a shiny Aron in Pokémon Go?
In addition to the standard version of Pokémon Go, Shiny Aron was released in January 2018. If you're lucky, you might come across a shining Aron in the wild, but the odds of catching one, much less a perfect one, are extremely slim as this is not a Community Day, and shiny rates are not boosted. Nevertheless, every Aron you see has the potential to be sparkly, so it's just a matter of tapping each one to see what you get. I wish you luck in locating the right Aron. You will need 25 Aron candies to evolve your Aron into a Lairon, and you will need an additional 100 Aron candies to evolve your Lairon into an Aggron.
What does shiny Aron look like?
Shiny Aron is really unimpressive, as you can see in the image below. Simply speaking, the eyes go from blue to crimson. Lairon is a little more intriguing because it still has red eyes and an iron underbelly that is more oxidized copper in color. Aggron just imitates Lairon. Meanwhile, Mega Aggron alters the silver (steel?) parts' color to a light brown shade, which blends much better with the green and creates an effect resembling a duet between copper and oxidized copper.
