Return to Monkey Island: How to free Otis from jail

It is only natural that Otis's "return" in Return to Monkey Island is also his first appearance since he first appeared in the original Secret of Monkey Island. Your former friend will once more be imprisoned when you initially arrive at Melee Island's jail. Here's how to spring him just for fun.

Return to Monkey Island: How to free Otis from jail

Attempting to join LeChuck’s crew

Joining LeChuck's crew at the docks next to the Scumm Bar is the game's first major goal. The ultimate branch of this primary quest is the optional purpose of freeing Otis. If you have read our tutorial on how to join the crew covertly, you are aware that one of the various procedures is to have some keys made. The same thing will be done here.

The stores on Low Street will open after being turned away from the ship. On the left side of the street, enter Wally's Map Shop. He has a boxed monocle on his desk. Wally will tell you that these are truly free samples if you take them. That's fantastic, as we actually require two. Re-enter the store after leaving it to get another.

Freeing Otis from his prison sell

If you've spoken to Locke Smith on High Street, you're aware that any key may be manufactured as long as you provide the lock's serial number. You should combine your two monocles to create an extra-powerful magnifier before returning to prison. Examine the lock on Otis' cell with your double monocle and make a note of the numbers. Give Locke Smith that note, and you'll receive a key in exchange. Allow Otis to use it. Helping your former crewmate will give you an in-game achievement, even though it's not required for any major goals.
