As you progress through Scorn, you'll encounter difficult battle situations, limited health and supplies, and a variety of creative and interesting riddles. You must successfully complete all of them in order to advance and win the game. Very few of them have an obvious solution. In Act II-II of Scorn, there are a total of four combination puzzles that you must complete, each requiring the use of a cylindrical instrument and three spinning rings. It's crucial to remember what you're supposed to accomplish because each problem that comes after is more difficult than the one before it.
How to Solve the Combination Puzzle in Scorn
The first puzzle you come across is right above the corpse, where you can't miss getting the cylinder key tool. It's opposite a locked door with a panel on the upper left that has one light. Simply line up each ring with an exterior notch and press the "use" button ("Mouse 1" or "A"), working your way in from the outside to solve any of these problems. Once you've aligned all three rings, turn them so that they point upward and press "use" to activate the device, which will then push a little white bead into your cylinder key and solve the puzzle.
Is There a Trick for the Spinning Rings in Later Puzzles?
The notch you must align with won't stop spinning and stopping at what appear to be random locations for the later challenges, but pay great attention and listen for a click. You can arrange the ring's connection to press "use" when the notch stops and creates that clicking sound. This makes each of these puzzles a lot easier, which brings us to the fourth puzzle. You can't get to it until you've found your arm key tool and used it at the console to melt the bodies blocking the third retractable passage in this section.
The fourth console has a twist: while the first two rings are just as simple as the others, the third ring's point is hidden. Continue beyond the freshly melted corpses to find it. Simply position the third ring as it appears above, wait for the click, and then select "use." Pat yourself on the back if you defeated this first one, and don't worry too much about the yonic imagery that was used. After finishing the final combination puzzle of this kind in Scorn, you'll be ready to take on the next challenge down the elevator in the room with the four bulbs that resemble plants and are red-lit. Soon, you'll be able to move on from this region.
