Former U.S. President Bill Clinton admitted to hospital for non-COVID related infection

CNN reported on Friday AEDT that former US President Bill Clinton was hospitalised in California on Tuesday with a possible blood illness.

According to doctors treating Clinton, 75, at the University of California Irvine Medical Centre in California, he was in the intensive care unit only to give him solitude and was not on a breathing machine. According to CNN, His condition is not related to his previous heart problems or COVID-19.

Clinton was admitted on Tuesday evening, according to spokesman Angel Urena. He stated, "He's on the mend, in good spirits, and is tremendously grateful to the physicians, nurses, and personnel who have provided him with outstanding care." Clinton had a urinary tract infection that extended to his bloodstream, a disease known as sepsis, according to CNN. According to the network, he had been in California for a Clinton Foundation event.

Clinton was diagnosed with the infection when he was transferred to UCI Medical Center, according to his doctors, Dr. Alpesh Amin and Dr. Lisa Bardack, who released a statement saying he was admitted for strict monitoring. Antibiotics and fluids were also administered to him.

“He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring,” they said, adding that after two days his white blood cell count was trending down “and he is responding to antibiotics well.”

They claimed that his California medical team, which included his cardiologist, was in "continuous touch" with his New York-based medical staff.

“We hope to have him home soon,” they said.

Clinton, who is 75 years old, had quadruple bypass surgery in 2004. After complaining of chest difficulties, he had two coronary stents implanted in 2010. He's also made it known that he's following a rigorous, mostly plant-based diet.
