Genshin Impact new characters in the 2.1 update
Do you want to learn more about the new characters that will be appearing in Genshin Impact? Since its release in 2020, the addictive anime game has seen a slew of regular upgrades that have expanded the game's content while also introducing various new characters via limited-time banners.
Mihoyo's Genshin Impact roadmap states that new updates will be released every six weeks — and if past experience is any indication, each new patch will include at least one new banner featuring a new Genshin Impact five-star character, with the possibility of additional four-star characters as well. However, numerous new Genshin Impact characters, such as Genshin Impact Klee, have been added outside of this plan, so new characters may appear at any time.
Sangonomiya Kokomi is the most recent character to debut in the Genshin Impact 2.1 update, but there have been a few leaks and datamined details about other characters that could come in future Genshin Impact updates and beyond. These characters aren't set in stone until they're formally announced, so they could change.
The new and upcoming Genshin Impact characters are:
NEW CHARACTERS IMPACTED BY GENSHIN IN 2.1
SARA KUJOU
Kujou Sara is the Tenryou Commission's general and the Kujou Clan's adopted daughter. She is a four-star Electro Bow user who serves the Raiden Shogun. Check out our guide to the greatest Kujou Sara build if you managed to get her on the first 2.1 banner.
RAIDEN SHOGUN
Raiden Shogun is the Inazuma Bakufu's Shogun and the formidable Electro Archon. He is a member of The Seven and the Shogun of the Inazuma Bakufu. Raiden Shogun appears to be severe and austere; as part of the Inazuma tale, the traveller will embark on a journey that will reveal who Raiden Shogun is guarding and why she is battling. Raiden Shogun is an Electro Polearm user who originally appeared in the 2.1 banner. Here's how to construct the greatest Raiden Shogun.
ALOY
Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn has joined Genshin Impact. She can "wield unique elemental strength in combat and exploration" as a Cryo bow user. She's a free character that will be available to all players with the 2.2 update, but is only available to PlayStation users in the 2.1 update. When Aloy joins your roster, we've put together the greatest Aloy build for you to use.
SANGONOMIYA KOKOMI
Sangonomiya The Sangonomiya resistance is led by Kokomi. Kokomi is a military advisor who is smart and resourceful. She uses the Hydro Catalyst and is available during the current Genshin Impact banner - if you want to add her to your team, check out our guide to the ideal Kokomi build.
THOMA
Thoma uses the Pyro Polearm and will be included in the Genshin Impact 2.2 update. Thoma is the Kamisato Clan's chief retainer and is reputed to be a keen observer of people.
GOROU
Gorou is another Inazuma character who appears in Kazuha's voice lines. He has lovely ears and a swishy tail and uses the Geo Bow. Gorou is the general of the Sangonomiya army, despite his funny look. On the battlefield, Gorou is a formidable leader who becomes ferocious in whatever conflict he takes part in. Fans are already looking forward to the introduction of the Gorou banner.
ITTO ARATAKI
Voicelines from Sayu and Yoimiya contain references to Itto, the Arataki Gang's leader. Itto is a Geo user who might show up in the 2.3 plot.
MIKO YAE
Yae Miko is the head priest of Inazuma's Grand Narukami Shrine. She appears to be an electrical Catalyst user. Throughout the Inazuma tale, Yae Miko will encounter the Traveler multiple times. Yae Miko will not be playable in version 2.2, although she may appear in future versions.
YUNJIN
Yunjin, an NPC that works at the Heyu Tea House, is mentioned in multiple voicelines for established characters. Her in-game model was first spotted in January by dataminer Lumie, and she was identified as a Geo Polearm user at the time — but given that she has presumably been in development for some time, anticipate this to alter. Yunjin has since been seen in a Moonchase cutscene in the background. Yunjin will be a new character in the 2.4 release, according to Twitter user Tangzhu Tz.
AYATO
Ayaka's older brother, Ayato, is the Yashiro Commissioner and the head of the Kamisato Clan. Raiden Shogun, Sayu, and Ayaka are among the Inazuman characters whose voice lines he appears in. There's no guarantee that Ayato will be playable, but he's crucial to the plot. He is skilled with swords and polearms, according to Nobumori.
DAINSLEIF
Mihoyo officially introduced Dainsleif, the Bough Keeper, during the Tokyo Game Show, but no release date was given. His voice actor has been announced, but no date has been set for his arrival. Dainsleif is from Khaenri'ah, a subterranean world separate from Teyvat, so perhaps we'll run across him when we visit his country in the future.
YUNJIN
Yunjin is a Liyue NPC that works in the Heyu Tea House as a dancer, singer, and brewer. We don't know much else about her save that she'll be a Geo Polearm user, therefore we're betting she'll be a four-star character based on leaks.
YAOYAO
Yaoyao is a cute NPC who appears in the voice lines of various characters. She used to be Xiangling's junior while they were both studying under the same master chef, but she is now a Genshin Impact Ganyu helper.
She is depicted in the official artwork above, which may provide some insight into when she may appear in-game. The artwork features Yaoyao and Qiqi at the Mid-Autumn Celebration, implying that her release will be timed to coincide with a festival. She's been identified as a four-star Dendro Catalyst user, which is interesting because we don't have any Dendro users yet.
KATE
Kate, an Electro Sword user from Mondstadt, is the other new character model shown in the previous tweet alongside Sayu. For the time being, that's all we know about her, but we'll update you if we learn more.
SHENHE
Players first mistook this character for Shenli, which is the Chinese translation of Ayaka's name. Shenhe, on the other hand, means god crane, and some players believe Shenhe is the human version of Cloud Retainer, an Adeptus NPC who lives on Liyue's Mt. Aozang. She'll allegedly be a Cryo Claymore user.
BAIZHU
Baizhu is the owner of Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue and is a Genshin Impact NPC. Fans have speculated that he may one day be a playable character due to his Dendro eyesight, but we'll have to wait till Dendro is fully integrated into the elemental reactions chart.
CYNO
Cyno, a Polearm wielding from Sumeru, was revealed in the Teyvat chapter plot preview video - he's one of the potential Genshin Impact locales we'll be visiting in forthcoming updates.
COLLEI
Collei is a Sumeru character from the official manga Genshin Impact. The seer Barnabus infected her with Archon residue, but she was able to suppress it with the help of Cyno and Amber.
LYNETTE AND LYNEY
Lyney and Lynette were unveiled in the same plot preview video — they're twins dressed as magicians, apparently – and they're from Fontaine, a French-inspired territory. It's possible they'll be recruited as a pair and be able to switch places with one another in battle - though it could just be a fun idea.
IANSAN
Iansan was also revealed in the Natlan section of the Teyvat Chapter Storyline video. We think she's a Pyro user, but we'll have to wait till we visit Natlan to learn more.
SCARAMOUCHE
Scaramouche is the sixth of the Fatui's Eleven Harbingers, introducing himself as a "vagrant from Inazuma" who tries to betray and murder the Traveller during the Unreconciled Stars event: Star of Destiny. He is expected to become a playable character in the future, and many predict that he may be an Electro Catalyst user.
DOTTORE
Another of the Eleven Harbingers is Il Dottore. Although his moniker means 'The Doctor,' he appears in the official manga to be more interested in exploiting individuals for research and experimentation.
PULCINELLA
Pulcinella is the fifth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers; all we know about them is that they enlisted Tartaglia into the Fatui after he resurfaced from the Abyss.
These are all of the new Genshin Impact characters we believe have a good chance of appearing in the game, but as we learn more about the Genshin Impact narrative, we'll add additional candidates as we find them. Now is the time to concentrate on the characters you already have; here are the greatest Genshin Impact characters for beginners, as well as the best Genshin Impact weaponry to equip them with.
