Disney Delays Doctor Strange 2, Thor 4, Black Panther Sequel and Indiana Jones 5 Releases
Prepare to wait a little longer for Doctor Strange, Thor, and Black Panther to return to theatres, Marvel fans. "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" has been pushed back from March 25 to May 6, "Thor: Love and Thunder" has been pushed back from May 6 to July 8, and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" has been pushed back from July 8 to November 11. Due to the November release of the "Black Panther" sequel, "The Marvels" has been pushed back to early 2023, while "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" has been pushed back from February 17 to July 28, 2023.
Along with the slew of Marvel delays, Disney has pushed back the release of the fifth "Indiana Jones" film by nearly a year. The film, which stars Harrison Ford as a fedora-wearing, swashbuckling archaeologist, will now be released on June 30, 2023, rather than July 29, 2022.
After Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" solidified its spot as a pandemic-era box office hit, the significant release date shuffle comes ahead of "Eternals," the MCU entry set for Nov. 5. According to Disney sources, the rescheduling is due to production rather than box office figures. For example, the next instalment of "Black Panther" is still filming in Atlanta. Any production delay in Marvel's interwoven and precisely planned universe — which includes dozens of films and many new television series — has a cascading effect on the rest of the franchise. In the case of "Indiana Jones," the 79-year-old Ford suffered a shoulder injury on set in June, necessitating a hiatus from filming while he recovered. Despite the fact that director James Mangold continued to shoot without Ford, there are only a few sequences without him. Ford has subsequently regained his composure and returned to the set.
Four untitled Marvel, 20th Century Fox, and Disney's live-action division projects from 2023 have been withdrawn from the calendar, while one untitled Marvel film has been rescheduled from November 10 to November 3, 2023.
COVID-19 has changed the way studios distribute their largest films, with several major tentpoles defying convention by releasing in theatres and on digital channels at the same time. The company has reiterated its devotion to the big screen — for now — by releasing "Black Widow," starring Scarlett Johansson, "101 Dalmatians" prequel "Cruella," and animated adventure "Raya and the Last Dragon" on Disney Plus on the same day as their separate theatrical openings. The films scheduled for release in 2021 will be shown exclusively in cinemas for 45 days before being released on digital platforms. Disney, on the other hand, has yet to announce its intentions for 2022 and beyond.
