House of the Dragon: Release Date, Trailer, Cast, and Everythings We Know
In the three years since Game of Thrones came to an unsettling conclusion, a slew of prequels have risen and fallen, but only one has made it through HBO's long night of pre-production. House of the Dragon began filming this spring in Penzance, Cornwall, England, and the network released the first official photographs of the new series on May 5. HBO has now released a scorching one-minute trailer for the series.

Season one of House of Dragon was filmed over the summer and fall of the previous year, so it's possible that HBO will show it in the spring of 2022. Maybe they're going for a sentimental release—another April release, reminding us of that first spring, when we were all just sweet summer kids, unprepared for the bitter winter that would be seasons 4–8.
Who Is in the Cast of House of the Dragon?
Many of the actors joining the Westeros cast were announced earlier this year, including Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), and Paddy Considine (The Outsider). King Viserys Targaryen will be played by Considine. Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne, will be played by Smith. Cooke disclosed vital details about Alicent Hightower in an interview with Collider, saying, "She's incredibly multifaceted, and I believe people are going to want to see the worst in her." Given that Alicent is married to King Viserys I Targaryen, she is Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen's stepmother, according to Collider, Alicent's familial bonds will likely underpin much of the show's emotional architecture. Princess Rhaenyra wants the throne for herself, while Alicent wants it for her sons, setting up a war for the ages.
Viewers will "take some time" to comprehend Alicent's intentions, according to Cooke. "What's fantastic about Game of Thrones, as we've seen in previous seasons, is that you may detest a character one season and love them the next," Cooke remarked. "With these personalities, you never know what you're going to get. They're quite well-written. You may do some horrible things, but you can also do some amazing things, which is the human condition. Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower

What Is the Story of House of the Dragon, and What Does the New Trailer Show?
House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and is based on Martin's Targaryen historical book Fire & Blood. The Dance of the Dragons, an infamous event in Westeros history, will be the subject of the show. Following the death of their father Viserys I, siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra fought for the crown. Other houses as as the Starks and Lannisters joined either side of the conflict, pitting all of Westeros against itself. Many of House Targaryen's great dragons died, and they went extinct soon after, until Daenerys Targaryen hatched three eggs hundreds of years later. In House of the Dragon's first teaser, we get snippets of the action, including some classic Game of Thrones-style sword-fighting and jousting, as well as dramatic dashing down long corridors.
