Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Solve the Snowpoint City Gym Puzzle
Every Pokemon generation has at least one insanely challenging gym puzzle. The teleporters in the Saffron City gym in Red & Blue, as well as the tile problem in Ruby & Sapphire's Mossdeep City gym, baffled many players. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl continues this rich heritage, with the ice-themed gym in Snowpoint City proving to be the most difficult of the game's eight gyms to pass.
Candice, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players will need to destroy a lot of enormous snowballs by crashing into them at great speeds in order to pave a path to the gym leader. This may appear straightforward, but they'll only be able to approach the snowballs from particular angles, and they'll need to have built up enough velocity to really demolish them when they make contact. Worse, if players leave the gym before defeating Candice, all of the snowballs will revive, forcing them to restart from the beginning.
Players should slide to the left from the fourth row of tiles upon entering the gym such that they collide with a giant unbreakable snowball against the gym's left wall. They should next proceed to the third of three white tiles to the north. They'll want to slide to the right once they've landed on it, which will take them to two connected white tiles on the opposite side of the gym. They can destroy the enormous snowball blocking the first ladder by going to the tile below the one they first land on and then sliding left.
Players should start by going up the stairs to their left and then down and to the right to land on the white tile closest to the gym's entrance. They must then proceed north, slide into and defeat the Ace Trainer to their right, and finally return south to the gym's entrance. Players will land on another white tile (near to another Ace Trainer), from which they can slide to the right and destroy three of the central area's snowballs.
Players should proceed right and then north after defeating the trainer next to the white tile they end up on before climbing the stairs to their right. They should slide right and then north at the summit to reach the next set of steps leading to the highest level. They can then glide north to the rear wall of the gym and then leave to the two white tiles. To destroy three additional snowballs, they'll want to slide south from the tile on the left and then turn left from the white tile they land on. They can take out the remaining two snowballs in the middle region by walking one square north and sliding to the right from where they finish up.
At this point, players should slide left and down until they reach the stairs at the indestructible snowball in the gym's southwest corner, where they can return to the entrance. They'll want to proceed north (by a second white tile) to another indestructible snowball, then slide to the right to remove the snowball blocking the penultimate ladder.
Return to the place adjacent to the indestructible snowball in the gym's southwest corner, travel north one tile, and then right to the white tile near the gym's entrance from earlier on to break the final snowball. They should slide north, left, and down from this point. This will lead them to another impenetrable snowball, from which they can slide to the right and remove the final snowball in their path.
After breaking all of the snowballs, players can return to the entrance and proceed straight through the center of the gym to Candice, utilizing the newly available stairways. If they picked Chimchar as their starter Pokemon, defeating her will be much easier than solving the gym's puzzle, as three of her four Pokemon are vulnerable to fire-type attacks. Players should be cautious, as leaving the gym at any time can reset the puzzle altogether.
