Destiny 2 Gjallarhorn Guide: How To Get The Exotic Rocket Launcher

Gjallarhorn has returned! The popular and absurd Exotic rocket launcher was a big feature of the original Destiny, and it made a triumphant return in the game's Rise of Iron expansion after being rendered obsolete. Gjallarhorn is making a triumphant return in Destiny 2 as part of the Bungie 30th Anniversary DLC, after a long absence. To earn the legendary Exotic weapon, you'll need to buy the DLC and then tackle the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, which is the game's new centerpiece content.

While discovering Gjallarhorn isn't difficult, it will require you to complete a few stages in a quest line that will take you around the Cosmodrome. Here's everything you'll need to get your Gjallarhorn, as well as some pointers on how to achieve it quickly.

Accept Xur's Challenge

To obtain Gjallarhorn, you must first finish a round of Dares of Eternity, Destiny 2's new six-player action. This is simple to accomplish because the first time you boot up the game after installing the 30th Anniversary update, you'll be "abducted" by Xur and thrown into a Dares match. After then, all you have to do is finish the task and get your rewards.

After a Dares of Eternity match, you'll be transferred to Xur's Treasure Hoard, a new social venue. You may talk to Xur and the Starhorse here, and they'll both give you Dares and other incentives. Xur also has two Exotic quests: "And Out Fly The Wolves" for Gjallarhorn, and "Magnum Opus" for Forerunner, a Halo-inspired sidearm. You'll be on your way as soon as you get the Gjallarhorn task.

Meet Shaw Han

The Cosmodrome is your next trip, where you'll meet with Shaw Han, the Vanguard's New Light mentor. He'll guide you to the Loot Cave in the Cosmodrome, a fabled spot from the original Destiny's first days. This is how you enter the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, which is accessible via a node on the Director's Cosmodrome map.

Complete Grasp Of Avarice

Now it's time to explore the dungeon. If you need help traversing the Loot Cave's depths, check out our Grasp of Avarice guide, but in all honesty, the dungeon is best experienced if you initially try to figure your way through it yourself. It has all-new gameplay, several entertaining encounters, and a slew of humorous moments best enjoyed without spoilers.

You'll find a Wolfpack Round, one of Gjallarhorn's distinctive armaments, once you've made it all the way through the dungeon. Return to Shaw Han for the lowdown on what's going on with the round.

Identify the Wolfpack Rounds

Shaw will inform you that the presence of one Wolfpack Round implies the presence of others and that you should go clobber some local Fallen to see if they have any. This is simple enough to accomplish: any Fallen adversary with an orange or yellow bar has a chance to drop a Wolfpack Round, and you only need seven in total. The best way to get these is to go to a Public Event or a local Lost Sector if one is nearby. The road leading to Exodus Garden 2A is just behind where you spawn to talk to Shaw Han, making it the most convenient. In fact, you'll be passing through this Lost Sector again soon, so why not stop by now?

If you kill enough (relatively) tougher Fallen, you'll be able to complete the Lost Sector in one or two runs. Running Exodus Garden 2A with a group slowed the process slightly because it appeared like we may potentially steal Wolfpack Rounds from one another while killing foes, so you may want to finish this one alone to save time.

Return to Shaw Han and speak with Banshee.

With all of the Wolfpack Rounds in hand, Shaw will conjecture that Gjallarhorn might be able to be rebuilt. He'll even provide you with the necessary components. To get them pounded into shape, you'll need to speak with Banshee in the Tower.

Hit the Tower and visit Banshee for the next stage, which will return you to the Cosmodrome's Exodus Garden 2A Lost Sector. To collect the parts you need, you'll only need to clear the Lost Sector once, and that should just take a few minutes even if you're alone. After killing the gigantic Servitor, open the Lost Sector loot chest at the end to advance the step.

Create a Gjallarhorn

Return to Shaw once more, but this time don't bother talking to him. Drop down to where he is, then turn around 180 degrees and proceed into the little bunker in the wall where Shaw, well, "lives." A little workbench and a prompt to put together the Gjallarhorn components you've obtained can be found on the right side of the space.

You'll get your Gjallarhorn if you go to the bench. The weapon is quite formidable, with a large blast radius and Wolfpack Rounds that split on impact to hunt adjacent adversaries for even more destruction. When you fight near to your teammates, the new Gjallarhorn earns benefits as well. When you use Gjallarhorn with your Fireteam, the Pack Hunter perk increases your reload speed and handling, and when you fire the launcher near teammates, your allies earn Wolfpack Rounds for their non-Exotic rocket launchers. Everyone comes out on top!
