Monster Hunter Rise is getting a "huge" paid expansion in the form of Sunbreak next summer, which is quite exciting given how fantastic the main game is, and we've now been given a new look at its action - and new monster Lunagaron - in a new teaser trailer.

Sunbreak's dark new climes were first revealed in September when Capcom first announced the expansion. The publisher, however, has swapped pre-rendered cinematics for what looks to be in-engine footage as part of this year's Game Awards. Although we're still talking about cutscenes, it's wonderful to have a more tangible look at the game as the release date approaches.

It shows off a brand-new monster arriving in the expansion, the "ravenous beast" Lunagaron, as well as a quick look at Sunbreak's new setting, the island of Elgado, which appears to be far more sunbleached than expected, considering the somber twilight tones seen elsewhere.

Beyond that, there is little information about Sunbreak, but Capcom had promised a new narrative, locales, and monsters, as well as new hunting actions and a new quest rating, similar to Monster Hunter World's Iceborne expansion.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will be released for Switch and PC in the "summer" of next year, with the PC version arriving on January 12th of the following year. Sunbreak has been compared to Monster Hunter World's Iceborne expansion as a "huge expansion" to the main edition of Rising. The expansion, which will be released in summer 2022, will add a new Elder Dragon, a Master Rank for tasks, and more to the original game.
