Halo Infinite Feb 3 update patch notes: Big Team Battle fixed

The first true Halo Infinite update in weeks has arrived, as 343 Industries attempts a second Big Team Battle repair following a botched initial attempt. The first few months of Halo Infinite haven't been particularly seamless. Slow answers to key concerns, "lazy" events, and even incomplete updates have all prompted a barrage of criticism.

Due to a slew of existing issues, the developers have postponed Season 2 and, with it, the 2022 roadmap. Finally hoping to get back on track, we've discovered a new patch that promises greener grounds. Following a false start last month in addressing Big Team Battle, a true patch is now available. Here's what's new in Halo Infinite's February 3 patch.

Update on the Big Team Battle

When Big Team Battle launched in December, critical matchmaking issues were rapidly exposed. Players were frequently left waiting in long lines in the hopes of finding a match. Even seeking as part of a larger group wasn't enough to save the game.

On January 19, 343 released a modest repair to solve the problem, however, it wasn't quite enough. "We recognize that this is a cause of continued annoyance, and the team will continue to work toward a resolution," stated Halo Community Director Brian'ske7ch' Jarrard.

Halo Infinite February 3 patch notes

Multiplayer

  • Matchmaking service improvements for Big Team Battle (BTB). Players should find full matches quicker and more consistently.
  • Scorpion Tanks and Wraiths will appear more frequently on BTB maps.
  • Fireteam members in BTB matches will have the selected Fireteam Marker color, but may still start the match in different areas of the map.
  • Join in progress rules updated to avoid matchmaking into games that are nearly complete.
  • Changes to Oddball in both Ranked and Arena Multiplayer playlists:
  • If the score is tied when a round’s timer runs out, one minute is added back to the timer. If the score is tied at the end of the additional minute, then the round will be declared a tie.
  • The match will end if two separate rounds end in a tie and the victory will go to the team with more rounds won.
  • Halo Championship Series (HCS) variant of Free-For-All Slayer added to the Custom Game modes list.
  • In Custom Games, changes to Free-For-All Slayer, FFA Oddball, Neutral Flag and Tactical Slayer game options update correctly.
