Horizon Forbidden West: How to break underwater sunken barriers

There are a lot of things you can do in Horizon Forbidden West that you couldn't accomplish in Zero Dawn. Swimming through huge underwater tunnel systems and gliding through the air are two prominent new features. The ability to swim opens up the possibility of exploring new environments.

Sunken obstacles can be found deep beneath the waves, but how can you shatter them and acquire the treasure they contain? Here's how to get through Horizon Forbidden West's underwater sunken barriers.

What are sunken barriers?

Sunken barriers are a brand-new mechanic in the Horizon universe. They resemble big mounds of rocks that you can demolish. You can gain crafting materials, collectibles, currency, and more by doing so.

Beyond these barriers, there are numerous surprises to be found. Of course, you can only find sunken barriers in the water, so if you want to find any, you'll have to go for a swim.

How to break sunken barriers

The task of destroying submerged obstacles is actually rather straightforward. To have Aloy pry at the barrier with her spear, simply swim up to the barricades and press the R2 button. You may occasionally come upon a barrier that looks to be impenetrable.

This isn't the case at all. If a barrier appears to be impenetrable, figure out a means to go around it by swimming. With Aloy's spear, you should be able to pry it away from you.
