Horizon Forbidden West: How to override the Tallneck in The Stillsands
Horizon lacks the start towers that allow players to locate various goods in a region. Instead, you'll have to solve a problem to go to the top of a Tallneck machine. The information for an entire region is stored in these gigantic machines, and overriding one will reveal where everything in the region is. In the Stillsands, the Tallneck is unlike any other creature in the game. In Horizon Forbidden West, this is how you defeat the Tallneck in the Stillsands.
After you've finished the Eye of the Earth quest, you'll be able to access the Stillsands Tallneck. Once that job is completed, proceed to the place highlighted on the map above in the southwest corner of the Base. Among the little camps in the area, the Tallneck is easy to distinguish.
When you arrive at the camp, you must investigate the surrounding region. There doesn't appear to be a quick way to the summit of the Tallneck. After further investigation, you will discover that you must bring the Tallneck crashing to the earth. The three ballistae in the region are used to do this.
Use the three ballistae with the anchors to pull the Tallneck down. They can be found in the following locations:
- In the main camp
- To the left of the main camp in the smaller camp
- Against the mountains
Aim for the places on the Tallneck that glow blue during the ballistae. The Tallneck's weak points are as follows. A collection of machines will spawn each time you link an anchor to the Tallneck. Keep an eye out for the Bellowbacks after the second ballistae blast. The Tallneck will fall after all of the anchors have been fastened, and you can climb onto its head to override it.
