Elden Ring: How to Beat the God-Devouring Serpent

In Elden Ring, the God-Devouring Serpent is the first of two boss fights. If you haven't previously, you can find this boss battle in Volcano Manor by fighting your way there or by completing all four Tanith bounties. This boss fight may appear impossible at first since The God-Devouring Serpent is untouchable due to the lava lake. The combat, while still challenging, is manageable once the gimmick is understood. In Elden Ring, here's how to defeat the God-Devouring Serpent.

How to Beat the God-Devouring Serpent in Elden Ring

Because the God-Devouring Serpent only fights from the safety of its lava bed, any melee weapon will be ineffective. Even the most powerful sorceries in the game are ineffective against this boss. The Serpent-Hunter is the only means to efficiently take down the God-Devouring Serpent.

When you cross the Mist-Gate, look to your left for the Serpent-Hunter, a luminous weapon. It has a special ability known as Great-Serpent Hunt, which causes a long blade of light to burst from the spear's tip. This is how the God-Devouring Serpent is defeated.

Defeating a boss in Elden Ring isn't as simple as determining its weakness. To survive, you must utilize its flaws against it in battle. Use the Mimic Tears Ashes after you've equipped the Serpent-Hunter to add a replica of yourself to the field.

The God-Devouring Serpent will try to bite you, ram its head into you, and spit lava at you, but using the Great-Serpent Hunt skill to hit the beast's head will end the attack. You'll have no trouble defeating the God-Devouring Serpent with two Serpent-Hunters on the field.

The fight isn't done even after you've defeated the God-Devouring Serpent. Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, the second boss, will appear. Rykard's moveset is very different from the God-Devouring Serpent's, and his attacks are far more powerful, but he is just as vulnerable to the Serpent-Hunter weapon. Beating the God-Devouring Serpent and Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy will be a breeze if you continue to employ the Great-Serpent Hunt and avoid as the strikes come in.
