Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed revealed as a new asymmetric multiplayer game
Predator: Hunting Grounds' creators have set their sights on another well-known film brand. Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is an asymmetric multiplayer game developed by IllFonic in which four 'busters seek a single, player-controlled ghost. The Ghostbuster side, like the goofballs in the movies, employs tools and talent to track down and capture their prey. The odds may appear against you like the ghost, but you’re not completely vulnerable.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a video game that takes place after the release of the film Afterlife. Winston Zeddemore has resurrected the Ghostbusters in New York by purchasing an old firehouse and recruiting a new group of members. By the way, you're the new Ghostbusting team's next member. Equipped with the Ghost Trap, PKE Meter, and of course, the Proton Pack, you and a team of three jump into the Ecto-1 to cleanse a spot of a bad ghost. Ray Stantz, the former Ghostbusters founder, is on hand to assist you at Ray's Occult Books. Both Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd return to voice their characters.
Ghosts, on the other hand, have their own strategies for avoiding capture. As a ghost, you can fly, use rifts to transport throughout your haunt, and possess items. You can also use special abilities or summoned minions to fight back. Of course, you could just slime them. According to what I've gathered, the goal is to completely haunt a site before being apprehended and sent into the Containment Unit.
Spirits Unleashed has piqued my interest as a long-time Ghostbusters fan. The asymmetric multiplayer genre is obviously adaptable and compatible with well-established properties. After all, with Friday the 13th and Predator, IllFonic has demonstrated that the formula works. I also believe it’s fascinating that Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is the second game in the franchise to “continue” the tale after the films. Ghostbusters: The Video Game was technically Ghostbusters 3, whereas this new one takes place following Afterlife.
However, because your persona is one you design yourself, there will be significantly less story involved. At the Firehouse, you can personalize your Ghostbuster or Ghost, and enhance your equipment or ghostly powers. The additional variation you can bring to each match should spice things up a bit.
I'm excited to play Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed for myself. From what I've heard, the game is already off to a good start. You'll be able to recruit players from a variety of platforms, as the game will enable cross-platform play. Let's only hope that when it comes out in Q4 2022, it can live up to the expectations of fans of the franchise and genre.
