Gran Turismo 7: How to get Gold in the Gone with the Wind Drag Race mission
Rolling Stone Acceleration Battle 1 and Moby Dick Acceleration Battle 2 are the first two Drag Race tasks in Gran Turismo 7. Simply select the automobile with the biggest horsepower and you will almost certainly win. However, in the third Drag Race, Gone with the Wind Acceleration Battle 3, high horsepower will not be enough. To get Gold in GT7, you won't need the best drag car, but you will need a good one.
We used an R32 GT-R V-spec II '94 with full weight reduction and enough power improvements to push it to 670 horsepower to win Gold in the Gone with the Wind Drag Race assignment. We also added a Nitro System as well as Racing: Soft tyres. Anti-Lag System, Racing Brake Pads, Racing Brake Kit, Racing Clutch and Flywheel, Torque-Vectoring Center Differential, and Fully Customisable Racing Transmission were also included, though we doubt any of them made a significant difference.
It's virtually totally about power in drag racing. The ultimate result was a 1,200 kg car with 670 horsepower and 727.85 PP, so you'll need something with comparable (or better) stats for this quest. You should also set your Nitro's Output Adjustment to Max in your Car Settings.
Drag racing in GT7 is very difficult with the default controls, so if you're using one, go to the GT Menu, select Options, then change the Nitro/Overtake button to L1 under the Controllers tab. This way, you'll be able to use Nitro while still shifting gears up.
It's recommended to have your Display Settings set to Display All during the race so you can better time your start and gear shifts. The optimal time to gear up and utilize nitro can vary according to your vehicle, but in general, if you do either too soon, your vehicle will wheelspin out of control.
With our car and setup, shifting up to 2nd gear nearly immediately and then up again each time the kPa meter reached 1.5 worked best, but with other cars, shifting up right before the rpm meter fills up and starts blinking may work better. We also discovered that engaging nitro shortly after shifting up to third gear and holding it down for the remainder of the race was the most effective.
