Netflix is set to release a new live-action Resident Evil series in the near future. Here's all we know about the next iteration of the iconic survival horror genre, from plot details to a release date. Resident Evil was first published on PlayStation in 1996, with Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara's historic Capcom game. It has now grown into one of the most popular and long-running horror game franchises of all time.

Over the years, we've seen a wide spectrum of adaptations into different mediums, in addition to several sequels and offshoot titles. There's been plenty to keep die-hard fans satisfied, from Milla Jovovich's live-action film series to a variety of animated creations. We now have confirmation that a new live-action adaptation is in the works. This time, viewers can look forward to a new Netflix series, and we've got the inside scoop on everything you need to know.

Resident Evil Netflix series release date

On Thursday, July 14, the Resident Evil Netflix series will premiere. The entire eight-episode season is scheduled to be released all at once, as is the case with most Netflix productions. This means that instead of waiting for weekly episode releases, fans may binge-watch the entire plot right away.

Characters and cast of the Resident Evil Netflix series

So yet, only a few cast members and their individual roles have been announced. While details are scant, we do know that Lance Reddick will play Albert Wesker, a character who has been a cornerstone of the series since the beginning.

Aside from that, not much is known about the rest of the Resident Evil Netflix cast. While Ella Balinska, Tetiana Gaida, and Turlough Convery, to mention a few, appear to be set for the entire eight-episode run, nothing is known about their respective parts.

Who is directing Resident Evil on Netflix?

Andrew Dabb, well known for his work on the blockbuster dark fantasy show Supernatural as well as comic book work for Ghostbusters: Legion, wrote the Resident Evil Netflix series.

Bronwen Hughes directed the first two episodes of the series, and she has previously worked on projects such as Journey is the Destination and, most notably, The Walking Dead, which has a similar tone.

The series will consist of eight episodes, each lasting one hour, according to Netflix. Constantin Films, which also produced the Resident Evil film franchise's six parts, is producing the show.

Resident Evil Netflix series story details

According to Polygon, the program will follow two histories, one of which follows teenage sisters Jade and Billie Wesker as they move to New Raccoon City and gradually learn about their father's massive secrets.

The other timeline takes place a decade later when the T-virus has taken over the world and just 15 million humans remain. Jade, now in her thirties, tries to make sense of what the world has become and the lingering consequences of her adolescence.
