Sea of Thieves: How to use the Barrel Disguise emote

In most video games, emotes are designed to be funny methods to connect and express oneself in-game, but in Sea of Thieves, these character animations are truly valuable secret weapons. Tucking is a tactic that allows your pirate character to sit or lie down, hiding you from opponent players so that you can either flee or catch their plunder right before they turn it in. How to unlock the Barrel Disguise emote

Although such a valuable emote may appear to be a premium item, the Barrel Disguise emote was first available as a free Season Two prize at Renown Level 13. After acquiring the emote, you can use any Vanity Chest at Outposts or the lower deck of your ship to put it on your emote wheel.

The Barrel Disguise emote was not available to players who lost out on the award in Season Two until Season Six. Talk to Larinna of The Bilge Rats outside any Tavern; browse her stock, and you can buy the Barrel Disguise emote for 50 doubloons – they are the blue in-game coins that you may acquire by fulfilling commendations or simply leveling up your season Renown.

Barrel Disguise emote strategy

This emote was designed for "stealthy island trips," according to the official description. Barrels are always strewn throughout islands, so if you need to hide from enemy encounters, position yourself next to one and select Barrel Disguise from your emote radial wheel. Your character will perform a brief animation in which they scan the area before producing a barrel in which they can hide. The Barrel Disguise has been discovered to be useless against CPU skeletons.

Pirates who are astute and resourceful, on the other hand, may prefer to use them during ship battles. Shooting oneself out of a cannon or swimming to board an enemy player ship is a typical approach. Because each ship's bottom deck is littered with barrels, one may sneak into an opposing player ship and disguise oneself as one of the many barrels there. And stay perfectly motionless; movement will instantly cancel the emote and expose you, just like with any other emoticon.

If you suspect an unseen player has joined your ship, inspect the lowest deck; if you don't remember how the barrels are laid out down there, you should swing at everyone you see. It's not enjoyable to sail with paranoia.

How to tell who is in a barrel

Pirates who emote as barrels on moving ships will stay level as of this writing, thus they won't bob back and forth like the rest of the ship. This is a dead giveaway: the camouflaged player will stand out like a sore thumb among the other barrels.
