Elden Ring: How to get the Scaled Armor set

In Elden Ring, the armour you wear has a significant impact on your chances of surviving. Some armour sets are dropped by regular adversaries, while others can only be obtained by completing specific activities, such as sidequests. The Scaled Armor set falls under the latter group; to earn it, you must join Volcano Manor and accept the first available bounty.

To join Volcano Manor, travel through Atlus Plateau's Mount Gelmir until you reach the manor. Then you'll chat with Tanith, who can be found close to the Site of Grace at the manor. She will then invite you to join forces with her.

She'll offer you a key to a drawing-room down the hall if you accept. There are some NPCs waiting in this room, as well as a table with some things on it. A letter will be among these objects; pick it up to learn about your prize.

When you read the letter, you'll see that Old Knight Istvan is your objective. Fortunately, locating him is simple, as the letter will indicate the position of your bounty on your map, which you can see below.

Istvan may be found somewhat north of Limgrave's Divine Bridge on the ground. When you first arrive, though, you will not notice him. You should notice a red summon sign at the designated spot, which you can interact with to infiltrate Istvan's reality.

If you do this, you'll be thrown into a one-on-one battle with Istvan. He's a formidable opponent who can be difficult to deal with if you're low-leveled. We recommend waiting until you're around level 90 to confront him.

Thankfully, most of Istvan's attacks are slow and have a lot of lag at the conclusion, so you should be able to get in a jumping heavy strike right after he finishes one. Keep an eye out for his AOE magical strike.

If he plunges his sword into the ground, you'll know what's coming. He'll then conjure a circle of damage-dealing magic around himself. Once you see him place his blade in the ground, simply roll away. After you defeat him, he'll drop the Scaled Armor, which you can now use.
